When I fell upon Isis' latest album In the absence of truth in a musical store, I remembered the album also happened to win MS Post-Metal award... And since I've began browsing this genre after discovering Cult of Luna last year, I said: "What the heck, let's give Isis a try!" Well, I'm not used to congratulating myself, but this was a pretty good idea The album is a bit heavier than what I expected, but still I found it really beautiful and original, and it makes me want to hear more of them!! Since I couldn't find any Isis thread, I've just created this one to let everyone discuss the band, and I expect recommendations on their previous material I was thinking of giving Oceanic a try anyway. So, what do you think?

I think Isis is a great band. I certainly fell in love with their "in the absence of truth" but at this point I still prefer "Panopticon", its very heavy. About Oceanic, thats an album i found hard to listen, i guess it takes time to built on you. I would definately recommend Panopticon, its beautiful. But im by no means a specialist on this band.

Meh. I find Isis to be very boring. The band always takes 10 minutes to crescendo to nowhere... and they are very repetitive in this endeavor. Oceanic was pretty good, but all the other albums I've heard were rather dull. Aaron Turner has a better nack for style, presentation, and album concepts (which are very interesting and original) than he does composition and songwriting. The word "overrated" comes to mind. Regardless, I still think Isis has been a rather positive force for metal and music. I just don't get it.

Excellent band. Have 3 of their albums and I'd say my favorite is Panopticon. Plus, I've seen them live, which was very good.

I'm currently obsessed with Oceanic... well, I have to sau it's the only album from their discography I feel truly familiar with, as I had listened to it thousands of times and it's the only one I have the original CD, but it¡s close to perfection... the balance is great, the soft et punching atmosphere is embracing, the lyrics are cool and it never turns boring... I love to play that shit without doing anything else, just concentrating totally in the music.

I've been hearing Oceanic for more than 3 whole years now! Dammit, what an album! The atmosphere of it! Panopticon is great too, So Did We and Wills Dissolve are fucking awesome tracks. However, I find that Oceanic grabs my attention better. What do you guys think of their latest album? I found it extremely pleasant to listen to.

I'm getting into these guys more and more, they have a really 'grand' sound yet pay attention to details, i'm loving it. I'm really into mindfucking/complex and atmospheric music like this, so i'm going to watch out for Oceanic and their latest release when i'm out for records.

Isis to me could be the future of the Progressive sound coming from America. They have a very cool and atmospheric sound. So far "In The Absence Of Truth" is their best album. So Did We and Not In Rivers, But In Drops are very cool songs.

And they are definitely a great live-band! I can recommend that. Actually they are live even better than on their album, if possible, because all this soundcascades and crescendos become even more overwhelming!

I absolutely adore Oceanic. Panopticon certainly deserves a mention as well. Unfortunately I've never seen them live but I do have their DVD and the set they peformed here in Australia is downright awesome. I love throwing on one of their albums and just letting go. Beautiful way to spend a day, if you ask me.

Wavering Radiant is a freaking amazing album. I guess all post-whatever fans, snob as they are, are whining against it for any reason, but it's a release that just embraces you with its great narcotic atmosphere. Gigginova's avatar indeed made me think about how great it must feel to listen to WR with some weed at hand.

I dig the new song they posted on their myspace, now i'll have to wait until may for the release. Their stuff is really refreshing, even more so than a 12 pack of Nestea. How does Wavering Radiant compare to the other stuff ?

I would say Wavering Radiant is something between Panopticon and In the Absence of Truth ( and in my ears it sounds closer to Panopticon). The production is different but brilliant ( especially the drums ) I still don't want to talk about it, I need to listen to it more, but it sounds very very refreshing as Southern Wind said and very interesting. PS. The last song is magnificient. Can't describe with words how amazing it is. It feels like it wasn't written by human beings it is extra-terrestrial.

Wavering radiant is pretty damn good, although it needs more listens before I can completely grasp and understand it. I have listened to it approximately thirty times now over the last two weeks and the two tracks that stand out for me atm are "Stone to wake a serpent" and "Threshold of transformation". The latter one is one of their best. Ever.

I'm giving a listen to Wavering Radiant as i type, currently on 'Hand of the Host', i've gotta say wow, Isis never fails to bring the magic, a timeless music formula for me. The beginning of Ghost Key is so far my favorite moment of the album.
