I can see how something as sparse and brooding as this would've not rubbed me up the right way when I was first getting into post-metal, hence the '6' I seemingly gave this before, but this really is very fine. A step up from the previous couple of albums, this is right up with Through Silver In Blood and Souls At Zero for their best for me. An '8' for now but I could imagine it becoming a '9'. It's also probably (on some songs at least, not all) about as close as it gets to sounding like 'typical' post-rock/metal - I know they're pretty much the progenitors of the style but they sound different to Isis, Cult of Luna and their army of followers on most albums, but there's times on this that sound related, if not to those bands, then some of the darker post-rock bands. "Left To Wander" is probably my top pick off the album, love the second half of it

It's a very subtle sense of foreboding and intensity that appeals me. Great songwriting for an album that needs to keep the atmosphere afloat during a long period with a more minimalistiska sound.

It's not in your face and obvious in its' purpose like their heavier albums. No River To Take Me Home snd I Can See You are such beautiful and deep songs to me. An example of how you can do so much with little.

It's indeed the eye of the Neurosis storm. It's really good in its own way, but I definitely prefer their heavier works (still, "Bridges" is one hell of a fantastic song)

never really like these mellow non-heavy songs, with only few exceptions. So, not my cup of tea. Simply that :T

I get it, I just really love both the heavy and non-heavy songs of Neurosis personally, it's one of the reasons I love them. They are the heaviest band ever, yet can create some really beautiful songs.

EDIT: Actually, I would agree with you a little more now. It's still good, but I'm more drawn to their heavier works, and I realized I have always enjoyed those more than this.

Yeah this is definitely not "near-perfection". The only reason I thought that was probably because of how beautiful and peaceful I thought the album was, but it actually sounds kind of flat and uninteresting, especially compared to their heavy stuff. I get they wanted to try softer stuff then, but I prefer their heavier works, as I have since I first discovered them with Through Silver In Blood.
