Five albums in and going strong, Whitechapel were at the forefront of the deathcore genre and had established themselves as a band who stood firm while the genre slipped away underneath their feet. Mark Of The Blade saw the band switch up their approach while remaining close to their roots; the resulting songs show it was a mixed success for the band, and one that saw them take two steps back instead of one forward. The band is continuing in much the same trajectory. Heard the whole thing and it can be summed up as some moderately head-bangable music, a few half decent tracks, and some of the worst cliché lyrics I have heard all year. I think it's a little better than 'Our Endless War', but still not worth a whole lot. I will say one thing: still better than Emmure. If you are wanting some better deathcore you should check out Within Destruction or Azgard.

"Our Endless War" has some nice moments (man, that introduction kicks ass !) but here there's nothing to save the day, so I don't understand how you can think this is better than their last. And that quiet track "Bring Me Home" ! Is it supposed to be a mock up of Slipknot ? I like Slipknot for what they do but guys please keep to your own style (if you still have one). No rating atm but some disappointment for sure, even "This Endless War" doesn't seem so tasteless any more :/

It's fairly enjoyable, at least the rest of the songs on the album is better than the uninspired title track. I actually didn't have issues with the lyrics "Bring Me Home" has some of the best on the record.

I'm sorta enjoying this. It's generic death metal, but I'd take it over the generic death metal influenced deathcore they had before their self-titled. The cleans work surprisingly well, sounding a lot like a death metal Slipknot. "Bring Me Home" is a definite highlight, as is the instrumental "Brotherhood" and its followup "Dwell In The Shadows". But it's a bit jarring how the album goes from that DM Slipknot back to generic bro-core Whitechapel instantly, as if it never happened. It has a lot more personality than Our Endless War at least. Lyrics are still laughably awful as usual, so it's still Whitechapel, don't worry.
