3.0 		Back when At The Gates called it quits, there was a lot of speculation about what would its members' future be. For the Björler brothers this new project called The Haunted was the way to proceed. Together with Adrian Erlandsson, Peter Dolving and Patrik Jensen they set out to explore something new and recreate Thrash Metal to their own image. To many people their first album, this self-titled, was a success. To me, unfortunately, it doesn't work.

I understand bands can have humble beginnings, but this really is one of the most stale and average melodic thrash debuts I've ever heard. Some of the guitar work here and there demonstrates moments of greatness, but when the songwriting is so predictable and lifeless, such instrumental aspects don't really matter. At a stretch I'd say the album's first few tracks are the best, but that's not saying much given they do practically the same thing as the rest of the album.

I'm starting my journey with this band. Sounds really nice until now.

My personal opinion is that this is a fine band up to and including rEVOLVEr which is their last good album (and their best imo). Have fun with the three you have left!
