I wanted to give it a 7 but I guess 6 is what it deserves, really really average. "Surgical Steel" was a masterpiece compared to this.

I don't know whether my response to this is due to my tastes changing or due to the album's quality, but I did find myself less engaged with this than I was with Surgical Steel when it was released

Arguably their most sophisticated album to date both in songwriting and production, and some of the riffs and solo's are masterful, but I wouldn't say it's as memorable or enjoyable than Surgical Steel. Whether their later work is better than their early work is purely a matter of taste, some prefer the rough, raw, and vile sounding grindcore stuff, some prefer the more nuanced and melodic side, but I'm personally torn between the two, with my favorite album of theirs Necrotism lying in the middle.
