Wolves In The Throne Room - Primordial Arcana

Can't say I'm much of a WITTR connoisseur, have they always been as melodic as they are on the likes of Spirit Of Lightning and Underworld Aurora on this album? I'm enjoying it quite a bit, but wasn't expecting it to be so overtly and sadly melodic

I hardly recognize them on this album, and I don't like it. I find it a bit pretentious and even boring at times

It is definitely something different from them, but this what I expected from them after 4 years without a new record. The evolved into a different sound that is interesting and not boring in my opinion.

Can't say that I was fond of their first records but I like this quite a lot. Sounds very melancholic and "primordial". What a nice surprise. I might take this as a starting point to go backwards through their discography.

First album that I heard from them, pretty good. The second track was pretty.

I envy you for the opportunity of listening to Two Hunters for the first time.

Just finished my first listen and I'm not impressed with it.

I felt nothing but underwhelmed while trying to listen to this. Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind but I don't see the appeal with this band.

Ok it does not bring anything new on the table. However, this is good atmospheric black metal. Only reason someone might not like it is because of the high standards of previous albums but not because this is bad music.

Well, It does bring some refreshing more melodic and less chaotic sound.
After few spins I think its a good solid atmo black album but nothing praiseworthy.

When this band puts new things out its always interesting. Good mixture black metal, created by strong personalities. Really this band never produce bad albums

Solid release, new to WITTR but I'm liking this.

Doesn't reach the epic heights of Diadem or Two Hunters but still quality.

Despite being a big fan of atmospheric black metal this band just never clicked with me and neither did this album.

There are some highlights but most of the songs just sound bland overall, like they aren't bad but they just aren't particularly enjoyable either. And apart from "Underworld Aurora" none of the songs really managed to create a real atmosphere. So it is ends up just being repetitive and boring overall.

This just sounded boring. Nothing much is happening throughout the album. The 2nd and 3rd songs are good, but the majority of the latter songs are below par, with the exception of maybe the last track.

I thought I just needed to listen to it a few more times but now I've come to the conclusion it really is just average. A few good ones but mostly average.

This is the second album theirs I am listening to. I can see there is a big change from the previous album but sadly I couldn't find any particular track interesting. Overall it just flies in the same tempo from beginning till end. Just an average album for a couple of Spins.

These guys just don't captivate me like they used to, I guess. Like I said in my review of Thrice Woven, I think the main issue now is the production, like this to me is an example of a band that was actually better with the worse production, funny enough. That thick Cascadian mist - like fuzz is what defined albums like Diadem, Two Hunters, etc and it's really not present anymore. This feels more like standard fare atmo BM than a genuine WITTR album. Pass.

I always struggled with this band tbh, but surprisingly I've taken to this release, I quite like this much more melodic approach, and prefer the shorter songs that aren't quite as long winded. "Underworld Aurora" seems to be the song that stands-out most for me though.

This doesn't have the atmosphere or staying power of their earlier works.
