Great review! Although I would've give it 10! This is an amazing album and my first CoF album. Had only heard a part from "Her Ghost in the Fog" before I bought it and I thought it was good. I bought the album cause it was very cheap and I wanted to have an opinion about CoF. And what an opinion this album gave me! My favourite album!

Good review. I agree with you saying that this is a great album. But, for me, the rating is too high.

This album was alright although I prefer their older works I wish they could go back to their true Black Metal glory days... but none the less Cradle Of Filth remains one of my favorite bands and they always will be... good review although I would have given it about a 7.5 or 8...

Second CoF album I heard (after Midian) and it borders the worst on par with Nymphetamine (though Thornography still does have a chance for the lead with that emo fag "feat." The Byronic Man). Honestly, Anything after Cruelty and the Beast just pisses me off. Midian had some good moments but that was it. Dusk and Her Embrace and V Empire are easily the best. Buy the first four releases (including V, NOT including Midian) and you will agree CoF deserves to be shot for shitting over all their hard work over the years. One of the first symphonic black metal bands and all....Dani, you piece of shit.

of course older albums are better - but this album is a lot better then people give it credit for
this is a brilliant album that although sounds rather clean, is very entertaining for the full seventy odd minutes

the ratings 7.5 would have suited this album, there are only a few good songs and unneccessary instrumentals.

After listening to Nymphetamine and some songs from Thornagraphy, Damnation and a Day actually sounds very brutal!!:P I think that with this album, they went back to the Cruelty and the Beast sound (wich I like) There are some very good songs like "Carrion" and "Better to Reign in Hell". It takes a few listens to really like it...

listening to this album, I can't understand why metalheads would hate this band. They play metal. It's heavy, well written and epic.
I always liked a quote from the back of their (shoddily recorded) "Peace Through Superior Firepower" DVD: "If you don't like this band, you don't know shit about fuck.".
Yes they play haevy, it is heavy, well-written and epic. But why I hate it is because they have Donald Duck on vocals. Would they have had a proper vocalist I would have enjoyed it a lot more.
According to your reasoning everyone should love most metal. Guess what? Tastes differ.

Donald Duck? And who would you rather have as their vocalist? Eminem?

Yeah, sorry to burst your bubble and everything, but clear "singing" vocals don't fit in their style.

On Damnation and a Day it would suit them imo. But even I would even prefer other shriekers to the abominable noises Dani produces. So, get someone else in the band to do the vocals and let Dani focus on what he's best in, namely, writing lyrics.

I don't know why do you have such a problem with that. Feels great. The guy kicks ass.
One more thing, I don't really understand does Dani write only lyrics or the music too?

You're not the only one that has a problem with Dani's vocals. Btw, I also have rpoblems with Chuck's vocals on The SOund Of Perseverance and on the Control Denied album. And there I am one of the few as well.
I am not sure of he writes music as well. I think he does, btw.

As for Chuck, I'm having a problem with the whole band. Only their first album is worth something and others have way too much Progresive influences for my taste.

A bit more off-topicness... too much progressive influences on Leprosy That one is pure old school death metal as well. I can understand people not liking the stuff after for the progressive influences which turned them into a non-death metal band within a couple of albums.

You're right..... Maybe I just don't like Leprosy the way it is... And, how dumb is the name? It's like they named it "Rash" or "Cancer" or something....

It wouldn't be Cradle of Filth without Dani. As much as some people may not care for him, he's one of the big reasons this band sounds as unique as it does.

Yeah, I agree. I think the only really decent songs are 'Carrion' and 'Mannequin'.
