I can't believe nobody has started a Megadeth thread yet. Not only are they a well-known thrash band, but there's always been so much controversy around them because of the Mustaine-haters.

Have fun discussing.

because they suck.

you suck too.

OKay, this is a spam post. As you can read in the faq, ALWAYS say why you think a band sucks, saying "they suck because they suck" is of course not a rason.

this freddie guy is also the one who said that anthrax sucked ass.... so no doubt he would say something like that about Megadeth, especially since his favorite band is Metallica.

I'm still surprised to see how fast the new Megadeth album is coming. I was thinking about it, and I'm guessing that the poor US economy, high gas prices (well not as high anymore), and the increase in music downloading resulted in Dave needing more money, and in order to get more, is making another album already. Bad economy = more metal!!!! yayyayyayyayyyyy

Hahah I just saw a clip from an upcoming DVD about thrash metal... mustaine talks about how he pretty much invented thrash metal and influenced like all of the Big Four thrash bands.

Also he claims to have been the only good thing about Metallica. Ever.

Well that last statement is true, but the others? maybe not, even if he's best thrash guitarist and one of the first

  • He actually said The Big Five, but yeah, it sounded arrogant (which he said himself)
  • As far as the second statement... please, without Hetfield&Ulrich there would be no freaking Metallica.

(and ty for the correction-- but what are the big five? I knew the big four as: Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer...?)

Mustaine considers Exodus there as well.

I would place exodus over all of the bands within the big four, besides megadeth. i don't enjoy metallica anymore, even their earlier work is starting to wear thin on me. i have grown tired of slayer too as they are boring and never change their style. instantly recognisable isn't always a good thing. and i absolutely love megadeth. i love that they are slightly more technical and less conventional. i also like that their more radio-friendly stuff is also damn good music, whereas i don't think i could name you anything after metallica's s/t album. seriously, besides fuel of course. i haven't heard enough anthrax to have an opinion.

I have just watched the first DVD from the Arsenal of Megadeth, and there was this song... "Go To Hell". Never heard of it before. Dave was probably angry about losing two Grammys to Metallica. I'd definitely be if I were him.

If I remember correctly Go To Hell was written for one of the Bill And Ted's movies. Problem is I don't have the Megadeth - Warchest at my work place else I could have looked it up in the liner notes.

What do you need liner notes for? Mustaine used the phrases from "Enter Sandman" I guess to mock Metallica. Is that right?

I guess you mean these lines...
Now I lay me down to sleep
Blah, blah, blah my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
I'll go to hell for heaven's sake

These are actually lines from a nursery rhyme which is sung to kids before they go to sleep. But of course slightly altered here in Go To Hell.
And wehen you see Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey they make sense cause the Reaper makes and appearance there.

Nope. Dave might have been bitter, but it only vented that in interviews at the time. Actually people try to make this seem like some sort of war between the two bands when in fact that wasn't really the case back in theday. At the time Go To Hell was written the two bands even toured together.

man, i totally agree with you about Fuel, it's a fucking great song, and a few other songs(The Memory Remains, Whiskey in the Jar) that are really damn good and catchy, but i've yet to be impressed by Tallica's later albums. the single version of St. Anger would be pretty good though without the snare noise.

@elio what?? i gotta vent some anger sometimes LOL.. look at James, he was skinnier than i am!!

About their more radio friendly songs being musically worthwhile, well, if we're talking post-youthanasia and pre-The System has failed, I thoroughly disagree. The World Needs a Hero, Risk, and Cryptic Writings all sucked ass. Now Countdown was a good album, and it recieved some decent radio-play. So if you wanna call that their "Radio Friendly" stuff, then I guess you can. Their two latest albums are definitly good, but there's no denying that the sound there is also more radio friendly. But yeah, those three albums (Risk, TWNAH, Cryptic Writings) all suck.

Yeah, I saw them live a while back and the way they opened up for their set was fantastic. Their drummer did this fill and lights flashed around him, but he was completely encased in his kit, and wind was blowing all around him. It was awsome. And Dave of course doesn't waste any stage time, he did a bang up job.

Well Megadeth are way more skilled, that's for sure. JKust look at the solos. And it's kinda sad that many Metallica fans hate Megadeth. Still it was nice to see how Dave made Lars feel liek shit when they met /againa reference to the SKOM DVD)
