I had no idea they did the South Park theme song. Besides that what I have heard from this band is great. I must get more into this band.

i didn't even know there was a thread for these guys until now. but yeah, awesome group. i got to see them back in '97, which was my first time even hearing about them, and immediately bought pork soda and sailing the seas of cheese after watching their set. i still listen to both albums. i've been to hell, and i spell it D-M-V!

I have The Brown Album...I love Shake Hands With Beef...and the opening drums on Camelback Cinema. Awesome! Also, Jerry Was a Race Car Driver is one kick-ass cool track.

@Sonic: Yeah...that album has some kind of rawness to it that I can't help but love...it's infectious...the drums sound like they were recorded in a tube or something...maybe the wrong example but they sound really overbearing and tribal in a way (?) and that helps to accentuate the energy and emotion of each song...

I bought 'Sailing the Seas of Cheese' a week or so ago and enjoy it somewhat. It's a little tough to swallow at first with all it's wackiness but I quite enjoy the music, especially the bass lines of course. I'll have to check out a few more albums.

I used to work with a guy who listened to these guys non-stop, I don't know how he managed it myself. The music seems really wacky and plays with my head after a while! Still, what I've heards been really good, and the bassist is impressive! Don't own any albums, where do I start?

@Omni: I'd recommend Frizzle Fry, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, Tales from the Punchbowl. Or Antipop. You should watch the Hallucino-Genetics DVD. it's exquisite.

Written by +{Jonas}+ on 28.01.2008 at 22:42 the first three albums (so Suck On This, Frizzle Fry, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese) certainly are. After that it varies from song to song IMO

Metal? Not by any definition I can think of. They have the occasional vaguely metallic "riff" here or there but in terms of instrumentation, presentation, and the actual music they play there isn't much that's metal about them. They're more in line with a sort of 1990s alternative rock sound, with frequently eclectic/funk/avant-garde/whatever leanings (you might argue there's some metal thrown in there, but certainly not enough to merit calling them a metal band, doing so is just doing the band a disservice by misrepresenting their sound). Songs like "Mr. Krinkle" are bizarre, foreboding and heavy as anything; but Primus achieves this without using any sort of clearly metal foundation. Unless we're talking alternative metal in the sense of "any rock-oriented band with an aspect of heaviness in their sound", but I never saw that as a viable category and I don't think you do Primus any favours by calling them "metal." Cool band anyway, I've enjoyed them all except Antipop, and I thought the Animals... EP was a nice recovery from that. In a lot of ways I prefer Oysterhead over later Primus, mind you.

First three are DEFINITELY metal. When people deny those being metal it just shows they don't know what metal is.

24.10.2008 - 04:13 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 24.10.2008 at 01:10 Definitely borderline metal, at the most. When people claim those are DEFINITELY metal it just shows they don't know what metal is. Or at least can't explain this conclusion which they find so obvious.

Lemme just say, as much as I love Primus, I still think Victor Wooten is top bassist, with Les Claypool runner up. Sorry guys, its just how I feel. Frizzle Fry is the best album with Tales from The Punch Bowl next. They call me misses Know-It-All. lol
