Best I can describe their stuff is "Alternative Garage Punk with a touch of Post-Blues." Seriously, there's no way you could've listened to more than one song (I'm guessing In One Ear or Ain't No Rest For The Wicked which you must've heard from Borderlands) if you think they are worst than Nickleback.

It's a shame how rarely mentioned The Loveless are. Even though you'd have to be off your rocker to call them metal, they have a profile on MA due to a lot of their members being in Saturnus as well. Unfortunately, they only have a single full-length out, released back in the distant 2002. Great stuff, a dreamy mixture of Alt/goth rock and shoegaze. Or something. Either way, as one review pointed out about their only album, Star Rover: "the only thing preventing these songs from being chart-topping, catchy hits is their deep, melancholic and dreamy atmosphere". Do check these two out:

Currently high on Current 93's "Thunder Perfect Mind". Gorgeous, wistful little record that has just the right dose of eccentricity, and exactly the right amount of emotion.

Account deleted Maybe Marcel and BitterCOld remember these guys, but they seem sadly forgotten to younglings. Way better than Led Zeppelin, as far as 70s hard rock goes. And some hipster rock band that my brother showed me this morning.

I've been listening to some Ear Greyhound. They are a rock trio from the states sound a bit like Led zep here and there but with bits of funk thrown in. I call it the sounds of sex. Check out their album Soft targets, tracks to check - S.O.S, Monkey and Good. Stream the full album here Jaga Jazzist is another band I've been listening too. They are a collective(?) from Norway who play nu jazz with some electronica. Pretty cool stuff. Electro Deluxe - an electro jazz band who have elements of funk and hip hop(the good hip hop) Sorry I don't have link for all of them as I'm at work and every damn music/video site is blocked.

Interesting thread, though just listing could take hours....As there are so many good non-metal musicians out there. Laibach cross my mind first, they're one of my favourite musical acts in general. I'm gonna leave out rock and its derivates, because I think it's just too obvious (and meaningless and time consuming to list ![]() The first band that comes to my mind is of course Laibach, I'm a huge fan of this musical act, combining industrial in so many different ways with so many different genres. They're simply amazing. One of my fave pop bands is Duran Duran. I'm a huge fan of their 80s stuff as their current work, I have no idea why, I just think they're so coooooool! Can't wait to go see them live this year, yea, Duran Duran ROCKS! I have all their albums, so yea, I'm rad about them! Go DD! ![]() David Bowie also had a pop era and his songs were just neat! All of his songs are neat though. Bowie rocks! Bowie pops! Bowie can do anything. Michael Jackson is another pop artist that deserves nothing but glory. I'm not exactly a huge fan, but gotta admit all his hits were a success for a reason - because they were great songs. I dislike modern pop such as Nicki Minaj and Bruno Mars. I could just shove something up the radio when playing that kind of music, but 80s gave us great pop music.
