Woah, what a disscussion! Anyway, I listen to what I enjoy listening to!! I don't give a fuck if "mallgoths" are listening to it or whatever. And no, I'm not trying to scare my parents. I also listen to other bands like Immortal, Leviathan, Emperor and I still enjoy listening to Cardle Of Filth. I'm not a close-minded person. Yes, there's alot of Slipknot and Marilyn Manson fans that listen to them nowadays, oh well!!! This doesn't mean that ALL of their fans are like that!

28.05.2006 - 23:48 Written by [user id=5080] on 28.05.2006 at 04:27 I don't know if I understand you correctly, but I don't see what the "new generation" has to do with this. The "new generation" of Cradle of Filth fans are mainly 14-15 year old girls/boys who wear dark make-up, dye their hair black, semi-gothic etc. It is said that Cradle of Filth is focusing on this type of people, since these type of fans are only useful for getting money out of their pockets, because they will not be loyal fans. Most of them leave the whole scene when they pass this fase called puberity. Generally, metal fans are older and more loyal to the scene, you can also notice that other bands in this genre(Such as Graveworm or Theatres Des Vampires) are more focusing on the metalheads, instead of the temporiraly fangoth. Cradle of Filth lost my respect because of this, they don't longer play music to satisfy the metalhead's heart. Now they play music to satisfy rebellious teenagers.

This discussion is beginning to touch my balls, so this will be probably my last post in this thread for a while... It's a mix between pathetic and annoying to see how most of the criticism against Cradle Of Filth base only, and I say ONLY in extra-musical facts (like they only play for money, thry focus in poser kids etc etc), but I had not seen a SINGLE argument saying that they are not a good band for this or that reason. Some people here are talking about metal as a way of life and bash against "false" bands blah blah blah, and on the other hand give as only reason to thow shit to an extraordinary band, the fact that most of their fans are kids that wear dark and want to impress their parents... in other words, that to be a true metallers you have to like bands with true fans, because the music they make does not matter... Pathetic... I'm actually accustomed to read this kind of shit by kvltie wannabe assholes with identity crisis that think that bashing against CoF because of their commercialism will make some kind of self-affirmation, but coming from a moderator like Blackgir is specialy annoying... nothing more to say... HAIL CRADLE OF FILTH

You're right with the point, that music isn't about fans, and bands shouldn't be judged by that. But think about one thing: fans are made by music, don't you think? And COF fans are made by their music.

I'm a bit iffy on one of the tracks from their new album, the one featuring Ville Valo. I dislike Valo's voice immensely, so I'm not too keen on it. Otherwise, send that new album my way, Filth!

You can want to be made by COF or not want to be made by COF Fellow metalheads can influence that decision, but it's like .. with Opeth for example. I didn't like them at all at first, but when you keep listening to them, you'll understand them .. Feel the moodchanges , feel the energy in the music , feel the amazing vocals drop off even more energy than there was already present! And I wast talking about Opeth at all anymore. I was made by COF also, you'll only really enjoy them, when you're open for it (as with anything)

I know them for a long time, but never gave them much atention, but latelly, I like COF more and more. I like the atmosphere they create. I don't listen to their lyrics, I just enjoy Dani's vocals, guitar riffs,... they create really great music. The first song I've heard was bathory aria, and I really liked that song (and I still do).

Anyone knows what's up with the uncensored Thornography cd cover? I've checked on their website and there's only the censored one - showing a woman with a severed head and some crucified people in the distance. I've googled for the uncensored one but haven't found nothing. Anyone knows what the "unbanned in the usa" cover looks like?

@Blackgir: Sorry my dear friend but I have to disagree with you here. :S About this band, the more you discover about metal the more you are going to dislike the band. I cannot understand why it would be that way. I don't think you should generalize here and fall into assumptions when there is no proof about a regular and constant tendency of something, like this, happening, don't you think? Maybe it was like this for you but it doesn't mean it will be like that for the rest of the people. ![]() Especially since the release of "Midian" Cradle of Filth decided to focus on a new kind of audience. A bigger audience. Nothing wrong with that, but the music changes dramatically into something..crappy. Nowadays Cradle of Filth is a band mainly listened by 14 year old mallgoths who wanted to shock their parents. Of course, there are also older fans, but I am pretty sure they are fan because of the old stuff. I don't know from where you take this about Cradle Of Filth changing their music in order to focus in other type of audience. Of course, if you know of an interview which has the band's members or even a sole band member saying that they change their music for that reason, then that would be proof about it, otherwise it cannot be certain. Bands like to explore other fields, other styles, other elements with their music and this can be what happened with Cradle Of Filth, why not? I don't know from where you take this about Cradle Of Filth having a fan base consisting mainly of 14 years old "mallgoth" kids, did you do a survey or something? lol How did you fall to this conclusion? Did you see kids wearing t-shirts from them? This can have several explanations, you know? It can be that their parents listen to Metal and they have known the band from them, I mean, it is not as if you see Cradle Of Filth in the TV as if they were a Pop group. About the band's fans dressing up as such, both of us know how fans can give into the dressing style of their favorite bands, don't we? lol The rest of the post is your opinion about the band so I have no jurisdiction in arguing about that. Most of them leave the whole scene when they pass this fase called puberity. I guess I have a delayed puberty then. lol Written by Elijah on 30.05.2006 at 16:02 I didn't know this. :S Damn, Ville Valo singing a song with Cradle Of Filth? I just don't know, it doesn't seem to me like it would fit. I know that Cradle Of Filth has had collaborations with other vocalist such as Liv Kristin and King Diamond but a vocalist such as Valo and his voice, I think it can't possibly sound good. Of course, it can end up in a surprise by being a good song; I am just not to faithful of it.

I saw COF a couple of years ago.....Dani is amazing, he managed to be more annoying live than on CD. In case you haven't guessed, I'm not a COF fan. It has nothing to do with mallgoths or anything like that. I simply just don't enjoy their music. Dani is a part of that, but not the only reason. Their style and image in general just doesn't appeal to me. Please don't kill me....

I can see that almost nobody here talks about this band's music, which is a bad thing, because I doubt that most of Cradle haters have ever heard a full album by them, yet they criticize something they have no idea about. So, contrary to most posters and trendy Cradle haters, let me talk about this band's music, or how I got to know and love Cradle of Filth. This statement was written by me while the previos MS version was in effect, so let me just copy it from there: Back in 1997 I was already aware of the existence of the genre aptly called black metal. I Listened to some Burzum, Emperor, Satyricon, Mayhem and the like. I found this new music really interesting because it carried with it lots of atmosphere, darkness, gloom and ominousness. I was slowly growing tired of death metal then and I welcomed black metal as a refreshing change. I visited music shops and asked for more bands like the ones mentioned above. One guy gave me a CD and said it was better than anything that I had heard before in black metal. That CD was "Vempire". and guess what, I thought he was right. "Vempire" blew me away completely, I couldn't get enough of "Queen of Winter, Throned", and I still think it's one of the best, if not THE best black metal song. A few days filled with the music of Cradle later I rushed to the same shop again and bought "Dusk and Her Embrace" and "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh". And I became an avid Cradle of Filth buff. their music was so colourful, multi-dimensional and simply amazing. Long, labirynthine songs full of unexpected changes and beautiful melodies, augmented with incredibly intricate and sophisticated lyrics made for what I thought was the best black metal band in existence. (Whether or not they are black metal is another point, which I'm not going to discuss here.) I didn't have to wait long for their new opus, as "Cruelty and the Beast" was out in 1998. And again, I fell in love instantly. "Through the maw of the woods a black carriage was drawn", and I was drawn into Dani's world again. I listened to this album so many times that I know some songs by heart, and, if I could play any instrument, I would be able to play them all, not to mention the lyrics, which I still know by heart. Fantasies sexed when their eyes, moonstruck, met Their friction wore away through the sea of foreplay Lovers at first bite, an Eve tempted to lay Gasping at rafters, flesh pressed in ballet Believe it or not, but I wrote these verses from memory, as I could with most of the lyrics on this album. This is probably the last Cradle album that can be called black metal without causing commotion among black metal purists. Of course, the band introduced lots of gothic elements, but they were to become their trademark, so no wonder. Two years later "Midian" was unleashed and, of course, I loved it to death. I couldn't imagine CoF being able to top "Cruelty and the Beast", but they did it. Less blackish and more gothic, it was excellent nevertheless. The band again showed that their songwriting skills were constantly developing. the beginning of the album is not so explosive, because "Saffron's Curse" and "Death Magick for Adepts" are only very good, but in songs like "Tearing the Veil from Grace", "Tortured Soul Asylum" or "Her Ghost in the Fog" the band really shines, showing all their talents at the same time, lyrics included or course: Exhuming the moon through the bars in my room The sooner the bitter pills swallowed are through But no Aphrodites, Genotypes, Demonarchetypes, No Cenobites rise to claim me for you "Midian" claimed its place in my CD player and didn't want to leave it for a long, long time. Again, I learned most songs and lyrics by heart and can still remember them. And the best was still to come. When the band was signed to Sony, there was a loud outcry that they were sell-outs. They were, so what? Who gives a fuck what label bands use to release their meterial? Everybody expected that the new album would be pure shit and when it was out, almost everybody was happy to announce that it's as shitty as it gets. Sure, because they listened only to "Babalon A.D." and "Mannequin", the least stand-out track on the album. To me, it is Cradle's greatest effort, an excellent concept album, made with tons of ideas by pure musical talent these guys are graced with. From the first secon to the last, this album is a monolith of solid metal that takes many listens to get into, but once you do, you'll never forget it. I'm sure that 99% of people who bash "Damnation and A Day" listened to it not more than once or twice. This album contains one of my favourite songs of all time, "The Smoke of Her Burning" Weld the gates to heaven shut The abyss leers in hissing ruts Unhilt the black grimoire of death Inscribe all names that God has left You could say tons of bad things about this band, but if you say that their lyrics are bad, you've got another thing coming. Or just try to learn English a bit better. "Nymphetamine" didn't impress me as much as previous albums did, but it contains some examples of what's best in Cradle's music - "Mother of Abominations", "Swansong for a Raven" or "Nymphetamine (Overdose)". The album's sound is a bit softer, I admit, soft enough to be played on MTV. Sure, they became popular, and the more recognition they got, the more hate ensued. That's just a normal thing with bands that become famous. Now who's gonna read this? CoF lovers know it all and CoF haters won't bother to read such a long post. I don't care, because I just spent 20 minutes writing about one of my favourite bands.

Damnation and a Day is the album that really got me into Cradle Of Filth ... I borrowed it in the library and woke up with a different track every morning, I loved it! And I still have to agree : the more you listen to it , the (even) better it becomes. And as daniell_p says .. no cradle of filth hater has his mind open enough to do that, so they'll never enjoy the orgasmic flares in what I like to call : brilliant album.

22.06.2006 - 13:06 Written by Darth Satanious on 02.06.2006 at 05:48 It is not a fact, but it is what I experienced. First I kinda enjoy Cradle of Filth, but then I heard Graveworm, I said to myself "This is better", because of that I slowly started to listen more to Graveworm instead of Cradle of Filth. I stopped listening to Cradle of Filth after discovering Theatres des Vampires and Tvangeste. The 3 bands I have mentioned are just like Cradle of Filth, but then just better(IMO, but I noticed a lot of the metalheads share my opinion, not all metalheads of course). Written by Darth Satanious on 02.06.2006 at 05:48 Like they will say in an interview "We will try to get as much money as possible from those silly mallgoths". Of course not! I believe Cradle of Filth decided to focus on a younger audience, people who are still easier to influence. They didn't specific focus on mallgoths, but it is pretty logical that mallgoths feel attracted to their music, because it is dark and it is catchy. It is kinda funny, Dimmu Borgir is using the same "lame" excuse. "We are exploring new fields". Can you explain to me why a band such as Anorexia Nervosa - or even Moi Dix Mois - explore new fields without having commercial success, or come attractive for mallgoths, when a band such as Cradle of Filth DO get a lot of mallgoth fans/commercial success because of their "change in music". It is kinda fishy. I don't believe they are just trying new things. Written by Darth Satanious on 02.06.2006 at 05:48 Lol, yeah I did a survey Nah of course not. It is just what I experienced. Like I said, there are also more mature Cradle of Filth fans, but most of their fans are younger people. These kind of people are mostly depressed, or confused about their life, and find support in Cradle of Filth, so that's why I said they are mostly 14 years old mallgoths, because it is for older people more difficult to relate to Cradle of Filth's music(but it IS possible). No, talking with them, and 6 year of high school experience. Uhm yes..that is kinda true, but I believe there is a difference between the kind of people you are pointing at and Cradle of Filth fans. Written by Darth Satanious on 02.06.2006 at 05:48 You are not a mallgoth, you are a true grim metalhead, so this doesn't apply on you

Exactly, it is what you experienced. It all comes down to opinions. As long as positions are taken based in opinions there is nothing wrong in it. Unfortunately inside the Metal world we have several Metalheads which base their position regarding a band just by following a hate trend (as you have seen yourself in the now defunct "Emo Thread") and that is something both unwise and trendy to do. If we add this to the fact that some fans left Cradle Of Filth just by their new musical direction and because other left them just by their supposed new fan base, it can be explained why.To whom they were directed to since the first moment, then? It all depends in the direction the band takes their music. Cradle Of Filth went more Melodic and Gothic sound but it doesn't mean that this need of playing like this did not come from the heart. Even when Cradle Of Filth's sound is not as raw as it used to be, their music remain intricate with the need of being very careful when listening in order to appreciate it well; their music is not as a "trip to the park" I would say. But, is it impossible to conceive the thought that bands can decide to go to a softer and slower direction with their music? We can't be sure of the intentions behind this new musical direction that bands often take; we can only assume the reason of why they did it. I really don't care of the reason why since I cannot be sure of this so I just judge the final product: if it is good, perfect; if it is bad, fuck them. It all should come down to the music. My friend, I really don't know how Cradle Of Filth can become the support of depressive youngsters when their lyrics have nothing to do with: "I am here crying in this lonely room because nobody wants me." Their lyrics remain over the top. Of course, Cradle Of Filth can be support for people because, as any Metal band, it can take us away from the problems of reality by enjoying their music but the band is nothing as "cloth of tears" band. Anyway, what do fans matter in all this? Now that you brought up Moi Dix Mois, does the fact that a lot of ladies, chicks were obsessed with Gackt and they showed up at concerts takes the greatness of Malice Mizer away? You are not a mallgoth, you are a true grim metalhead, so this doesn't apply on you Thanks for clarifying. I was about to go to the doctor to check me out and everything. lol

Have you guys heard the new Cradle of Filth song? If not, you can listen to it here. I think that it's really fucken bad. It's almost generic, which is unusual for this band. This song has by far Dani's worst vocals and it's actually so bad I had to turn it off shortly after a minute passed. I thought this band maxed out their level of suckyness with their last album. I was wrong.

CoF is always good for stirring up confrontation amongst metalheads... CoF has definitely been painted as a mainstream metal act, I don't think any other "black metal" band has been in the public in the same way they have, where as Venom and others got attention because they were so abrassive that it demanded peoples attention. CoF use to be shocking now you can buy their shirts, dvds and music at a variety of locations. I like them, primarily Dusk & Her Embrace and Cruelty & The Beast, but I enjoy Principle Evil Made Flesh up until Midian. Dani use to write some beautiful lyrics, albeit extremely sappy in a gothic manner but he had good word usage but now their music has a differant feel to it, kind of mainstreamish - more money and less music quality. Despite that art is art regardless of how you create it, Dani does use a voice modifier, some people discredit his abilities as a musician but supposedly he can sing just fine otherwise. For any of those whom have seen the CoF dvds know how big of a Dani and the band are, they really fail to live up to the black metal genre in terms of being extreme, despite how Dani some what disassociated his band with black metal due to the black circle in Norway and other criminal activities in Europe that hold affiliation with black metal. But we are talking about a band who find immense humour in taking fire crackers and bouncing a ball around, whilst giggling like little girls, as well thinking how hardcore they are for drinking fox urine, wearing safety goggles while they throw balls or rocks inside a house at pictures hanging on the wall. I even recall them throwing socks out from their balcony whilst on tour and retreating back into their room giggling loudly..

well i am a big fan of Cradle Of Filth and have all their album, etc. i havent heard the new one yet though, but last night i heard that new track you can stream and it sounded ok i love Cradle Of Filth's earlier albums and i quite like 'Damnation And A Day' too, but its 'Nymphetamine' where i start t oget a bit iffy about them. i am just not one for all this gothic business or whatever style you would say it is i still like the album but i just dont listen to it often i think the new one will probably sound like 'Nymphetamine' judging from that song and i wouldnt have a major problem with that - but the one thing i am absoluteley dreading hearing is the track with that goon from HIM in it i will probably hate it and it will probably ruin the album for me - but the worst part is the same thing will be what drags them in extra commercial sales oh well. Cradle Of Filth will never be how they were so i guess i just have to get used to this new sound
