Just noticed that no one had set up a 2023 thread yet for new album recs; there's usually decent interaction in these threads throughout the year so thought it might be worth getting the ball rolling.

I've reviewed most of my top finds thus far this year on the main page, but for suggestions of bands not yet on the site that I probably won't review, I'd say that Fathers made a solid sludgy hardcore record, and Pyramid Mass made some weird doomy death metal:

Cultura Tres - Camino de Brujos

I didn't able to find the new album on bandcamp. It's out on Spotify though.

I've stumbled upon this one recently... atmospheric/post-black (instrumental only). I'm not familiar with the band's previous work, but this new one is more than decent.

Don't miss this beautiful album that is a seamless mix between alternative rock/post-rock/post-metal with a nice gaze-y atmosphere.

Sometimes you just gotta love the album cover (could've been a He-Man villain) even if the music isn't exceptional. It's fantasy themed old school thrash (instead of your typical fantasy themed power metal) with riffing that reminds me of early Metallica (just listen to "Pendulum Of Death"). The singers voice drags it down a bit though (even if he reminds me a bit of Lemmy for some reason), but not enough to discard the album.

Do you like the western themed atmospheric black metal band Untamed Land? But at the same time you would prefer if the music was raw and aggressive? Look no further.
Duelist is here for you with the debut album Spaghetti Western Black Metal.

This is Sludge Keeper, a death metal studio project created by Andrea Tocchetto (Inverted Matter) in Northeastern Italy in 2020. On Slough Of Despair, the project features high-level guest musicians Kevin Paradis (Benighted, Mithridatic) on drums, and Marco Mastrobuono on bass.

For anyone might be interested.

Going through bandcamp best metal recommendations this month, and the first one is already a blast. Beautiful prog metal with jazzy elements that definitely worth a listen.

Brace yourselves. This sounds like 16-bit Super Nintendo music with harsh lyrics in Finnish. Yep, you heard me There's no guarantee that anyone will like this. I'm not even sure I do. But it sure as hell is more cheesy than cheese and highly entertaining.

Fugitive, the (relatively new) death/thrash/hardcore band of Power Trip's Blake Ibanez (with members of Skourge, Creeping Death, etc.). They released an EP last year, and now these two new songs. It kicks ass.

I don't like this enough to review it, but anyone who likes avantgarde extreme metal, 夢遊病者 (Sleepwalker) - Skopofoboexoskelett is black metal, plus a load of free jazz mania, world music and other eclectic musical ideas

This was really interesting. I like it. And it sounds more like an album Netzach or Radu would review rather than you. Maybe someone else will pick it up. A review of this album would definitely be interesting to read.

Both me and Netzach have already reviewed albums by that band.

Didi'nt know that so it was kinda funny that I still was spot on. Realised just now that 夢遊病者 (Sleepwalker) is actually Muyubyosha.

Since nikarg is posting crossover EP's I'll do the same!

Ghetto Ghouls - Rats (Bandcamp)
Crossover Thrash - Norway

It's only 3 rather short tracks.

Pyrkagion - The Katchon And The Unending Fire - on a label so can't cover in CCs and a debut EP so not really suitable for the front page, but this is pretty dope, sinister quasi-ritualistic posty-black metal in a similarish vein to Panzerfaust
