I'm just interested in knowing the true meaning of Islam. I know what Middle Eastern Extremist are claiming is false, but if any of you are Muslim or know the true meaning and beliefs please I'd like to know the true meaning of Islam.

Islam I think is the path that when you follow it you don't fear any kind of loss or sadness, it is a middle ground,a moderate idiology of life, that does not treat humans as super naturals with no earthly characteristics, and does not let them totally concentrate on running after the unknown on their earthly life, it rejects every kind of myths,violence,bad,ignorance..

Well that seems like a path I'd like to take then. "Moderate Ideology Of Life" explain this for me please. Seems like a good religion to me, but it sucks its been corrupted by man. Tell me more about Islam I'm Intrigued seriously though

about why chosing Islam, well I personally happen to find it the most suitable,I was born in a muslim country which gave me the chance to discover this religion properly and get convinced by it,other people were born in other countries and chose christianity or judaism, but there are people converting all the time in both ways, you can believe in whatever you want, which should be to you,the most correct and belief-deserving.

Very well said, each one should take the path that seems right for them. Your sentiments remind me of those of a Pashtun (Afghan Muslim) tribesman that my grandfather met while on a pilgrimage to Amarnath temple, high in the Kashmiri Himalayas. There was adverse weather, the Pashtun was my grandfather's guide up the mountain. Everyone was fearing for their lives, and the Pashtun said to my grandfather, "Don't worry, if God wills it we will be fine, after all I am taking you to one of his houses of worship! I will pray to Allah, you pray to Shiva, each one will find their path this way."

Because there were no judicial procedures in deserts of arabia and palestine, the necessity was the religion to rule the people and country.

Zarathustra, the first religion that talked about the next world went to other regions of middle-east and so it had influenced on judaism and christianity and both on islam. zarathustra commenced all these; the vestige of iranian civilization. you see all religions appeard from middle-east.

Any moron can be a good believer. you do some works, you'll go to heaven; you dont, you'll go to hell.
islam represents a heaven full of passion. eat what you'd like and have sex with nymphs.
the way of life 1500-years-ago arabs thought about and loved.
this heaven has no signs of art and lierature, nor library, nor philosophy, ... just eat, drink and fuck.
allah is male, lmao. he talks to his homogeneouses.

About the miracles muslims mention from quran, all were discussed very long time ago before islam among egyptians, greeks, persians, romans and mayans. did you know that persians and egyptians did surgial operarions (neurosurgery, ...) on sick ppl over 5000 years ago ?? muslims copied them somehow.

i cant remove the muslims filthy mess which they did to world from my mind. muslims should invite non-believers gently ??!! the battle of al-qadisiyyah should be enough for you. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_al-Qādisiyyah) muhammad was alive when his army attacked other countries. muslims kidnapped the women, sold them in 'medina', used them as slaves and muhammad took the money.

( N'uman bin Maqran began to explain the mission of Islam. When he finished Yazdgerd III said:

"Do you not re-collect that you were the most wretched and most miserable people the world ever saw! Whenever you showed signs of recalcitrance we had only to issue orders to the frontier land owners who invariably succeeded in crushing your mutinous spirit and humbling you to the dust."

Listening to this insult hurled at them, one of the Arab ambassadors, Mughirah bin Zurarah, spoke up;

"These personages (pointing towards his comrades) are the flower of the Arab nobility and their forbearance and dignity does not permit them to be loquacious. The remarks they made became them, but certain things which were worth saying have not been said. I take this opportunity to say that it is true that we were a wretched people. We slew each other and we buried our infant daughters alive. But Allah sent unto us a Prophet who was the noblest among us as the scion of the noblest house. At first we opposed him. He spoke the truth and we belied him; he advanced and we receded. Gradually, however, he touched a chord in our hearts. Whatever he said, he said at the bidding of Allah. He commanded us to offer this religion to the whole world. Those who embraced Islam became our brothers. Those who refused agreed to pay Jizya and were promised our protection. But those who accepted neither had to face the sword".
". )

Although the name of 'allah' is known since quran, muhammad's father's name was 'abdullah'. as i know, it means the creation of the creator (abd of allah); hows that possible ??!

i think uve forgot about Buddhism, half of islam is Jewry the other half is Buddhism. for example god said to moses: Dont eat Pigs meat but then he/she(god) changed its mind and let jesus to eat it-LOL.then it changed its mind when talked to mohammad too-LOL(what a idiot god) . or about circumcise too!!! thats why i think islam is like jewry. muslems kiss metal's of cemetery and jews kiss Walls of ....... (SAME SHIT)
and islam Influenced by Buddhism too.(spirtual and sufic thoughts-especially in iran)

i dont think that Zarathustra brought religioun on earth ! the other thing is i can take that u blame Zarathustra this way (maybe u didnt want to,but when u say that Zarathustra influenced all important religiouns, someone will blame him) . he wasnt Prophet(cause he never said that he is). thats why i respect him, cause he wasnt a liar. but thanks for ur explanation

Zoroaster/Zarathustra/Zartosht most certainly didn't bring 'religion' to earth, there were societies with religion well before him. Perhaps his was the first monotheistic religion, due to his singular devotion to Ahura Mazda, but since the earliest part of the Avesta, the Gathas, can't have been composed before around 1200BCE (Avestan, the language of the Avesta, is thought to be a few centuries removed from Rig Vedic Sanskrit, which has been reasonably accurately dated to around 1400BCE), it's not possible to say he was the 'founder of all religion.'

As for the Abrahamic religions and pork, well, the Old Testament and the Torah forbid the eating of pork. In the New Testament I think Jesus says something along the lines of "it's not what goes into your mouth that makes you unclean, it's what comes out of it that does," and Paul has a sermon telling people that it's too hard to keep all the Old Testament laws so they should follow their hearts or something like that. They're ambivalent, they don't say "eat pork, it's good," but they also don't forbid eating it. It's more along the lines of "well if you really want to, you can, but just remember that you have to feel OK about it all." The Quran, of course, goes back to the prohibition line. It's interesting to note that Jesus doesn't specify pork at all, but Paul does. This, I think, can be tied to the Quran's notion of Jesus having the right idea but his followers screwing it up.

ok i accept some of ur words nice information but r u sure that avesta was written in Sanskrit? cause i dont know what persians or afghans ancent writting. but i think they wrote with "Mikhi Wrtting" ?

Nah it's not in Sanskrit, it's in Old Persian (Avestan), but Sanskrit and Old Persian are really closely related, so close in fact that if someone knows Vedic Sanskrit, they can read Old Persian without too much difficulty.

@ Black Winter : u know, before islam, ppl (of arabia) worshiped pagods. didnt know god. just some statues. so it is right when rushdie (?!) says: 'allah' is a mix of the name of two ancient arabian pagods.
- How many messengers did we have in history ?

@ The_Black_God : I didnt blame; did I ?!
personally I hate all forms of religions, all stupid satan-lovers included.
Religion is only for weak and stupid individuals not able to stand for their own.

@ Judas : Ofcourse i know that wasnt the first religion but the 1st one that talked about the next world.
why didnt anyone say this before him ?

look the word 'allah' has nothing to do with islam it is just an arabic word that means god,see even arab jews and christians used the word 'allah' before islam hope it's clear, anyway it has no importance since it's a linguistic issue where the word came from.
-in the quran there was 25 apostles mentionned but of course that does not mean that they are the only apostles ever existed coz God says in the Quran

"We did aforetime send apostles before thee: of them there are some whose story We have related to thee, and some whose story We have not related to thee."

I see you're from Iran, what do you think about your politico-religious situation? I've read that the conservative parties kind of dominated legislative elections (even by prohibiting campaigning to the opponents in some regions :|), I hope your country will manage to get out of this.
Why is religion still this strong (and often violent) there?

Just read from a paper that a 16 year old Afgani girl was brutally stabbed repeatedly to death by her own beloved 23 year old brother....
The issue was that the family had moved to Hamburg, GERMANY from Afganistan already when the girl was three....they had lived in Germany for years....the girl had grown up amongst German children and of course she didn't care bout islam nor stuff and wanted to live a normal European life just as her friends who were born in Germany....the issue was that the family didn't approve and said that it's a sin to adapt to the perverse way of life of Europe and the mom and dad even sent the girl to live in Afganistan for a while hoping that she'd learn to love and adore the real and righteous Afgani way of life....

For sure the girl preferred the European way of life....she was harrassed and beaten at home all the time...she ran away from the home and appealed to the police many times but she changed her mind and asked her family not to be punished because she simply loved them too much to see them being in jail....

The result...after being out again with friends, wearing the AWFUL European clothes and living the oh-so-perverse European life she was again beaten by her dad and then her brother Ahmad asked her to go out with him to a parking lot where he butchered the girl...

Dunno whether the guy was caught or not....the parents attempted in the beginning to fake sorrow but then it turned out that they had approved the murder themselves...after all...they had raised their son to be a murderer....the aunt of the girl claimed that "It's the girl's own fault. She deserved it because she dared to follow the Western ways and denied her fatherland roots."

It's bout the thing that a woman must be murdered like an animal if she "violates the pride of the family"....said to be very common in islamic societies....

Which makes us think....are the muslims able to adapt to the European society?
But then again....aren't we Europeans the same....we've got pedophiles and fathers making children with their own daughters.....

Let's remember, that Islam mostly has nothing to do with some acts and beliefs, that people have in dark societies,it is actually due to their own traditions,to take Afghanistan for example,a country that had been isolated from the outside world for a long time, these pride things are common,so is drug dealing, planting, and consumption, can we then consider Opium as due to Islam?
I personally condemn such acts, and I am sure all sane muslims do, this shows how religion can be wrongly interpreted and violently hijacked.

because Religion is the best thing to control people. if someone say the truth and it isn't good for the kingdom they mute that person in the name of religion.
Same as Europe in Medievals. after down of church's power, Europe started to improve in fields of science and industrial movement and so on. ...

Really? Science was so improved in Europe that Galilei became a Apostate when he mentioned the Earth is not the center of Solar System and is orbiting around the Sun??? and good to know that Abureihan Biruni (Iranian/Muslim) found out this so many years before...
Christian was so weaker than Muslims before Fall of Churchs for sure, but after that, Christian improved and Muslims became weaker, until now you can see what a gap is between these two...

I think there are two problem with Islam, which are a little bit the same: first, there is no organisation, so everybody can interprete the Coran as he wishes, what means freedom for the most horrible and stupid things, second, the Coran is almost worshiped as THE truth and contains some horrible things about womens, the djihad etc... so even if it was a great modernisation and quite "feminist" when it was written, it is now absolutely unacceptable but always pretends to rule the whole society.
You can say that there are also cruel things in the Ancient Testament, but christians don't take it as a rule for living

And then, it realy piss me off tajt you can say nothing about Islam: in islamic countries, you can be killed if making fun of Mohamed, in our western societies, everyone calls you an horrible xenophobe if you only show how bothering for the society gets Islam when forbidding the immigrants to adopte the western uses. Everyone can say what he wants about Christianity, but Islam is so intolerant that evrey islamist rebels when feeling shocked in his faith!

Everyone can say what he wants about Christianity, but Islam is so intolerant that evrey islamist rebels when feeling shocked in his faith!

In our religion, there are some things that can be improved or altered if there is some new circumstances that oblige new rules, based on the third source of the Sheria, which is Ijtihad, that means in english, making an intellectual effort, to create new rules that did not exist,or change some old ones.So that this way,Islam can not get old or anything.
You make a good point, about not having a central organization, there are actally many, one of them is The World Islamic Council of which the president is Yusuf Alkaradawi, who is a man I deeply respect and most of muslims who know him do,but the problem is that such people don't get attention at all,the media concentrates more on extremists that the simple minded people started to think that it is correct islam, people adopt extremist views because they think that it will give them extra faith and that the more extremist they get the better muslims they become,it is true and these thoughts are fed by the the bad political and economical conditions in many muslim countries, plus the feeling of persecution among many muslims because they feel frustrated and helpless in front some political conditions like the backed up existance of the state of israel and the suffering from dictatorships in certain countries.
You would not probably feel surprized if I tell you the intolerant is not islam itself, but you would feel so when I tell you that back in time like 1000 years ago, muslim society was more tolerant than it is now,in means of faith, you could for example find some philosophers who doubt the existance of God and get their books published, you could find some poets who write anti-religious poems without getting killed for it.Even before 11/09, there were anti-religious poems published without getting much attention, but since that incident, many westerns became hostile towards islam, and many muslims started to join,as a reflexive action, the extremists camp, the media concentrates on extremists, giving them more and more publication.
I can not deny that there is a problem with muslims today, but not to generalyze, there are many moderate countries but I hope bit by bit people will start to see again the true meanings of islam, and from my personal observance, muslims are going in this direction.

yes, I read some persian poetry about wine and lust, it was great! I'm not sure it would be still authorized in some extremist countries. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "Satanic verses" were censored in many islamic countries before the 11/O9, so persecutions against free thought are not that new (but raised in the 20th century, you're right, islamic countries were mor tolerant when they were richer and mightier. so we could analyse extremism as a way to "protect" a culture and country groing weaker, also to protest against the amiracnization of the world.

I have nothing against tolerant islam in traditionnal islamic countries, but when I see more and more womens wearing a veil, and more islamic communities becoming quite agressive in my country, I'm quite pissed off.

What do you personnaly think about the veil? isnt' it a sign of women's submission, womens as possessions of their husband?

Completely disagree with you at least in Metal. Scandinavia + Britain make half of the respected metal. and then other countries like germany, france, portugal, italy. america is more powerful in thrash metal and death metal, which today death metal is improved in europe. we can do everything in Metal without america.
in doom, gothic, black, death, progressive, industrial, heavy and other genres europe has better bands by far than america.
it was just music, in other fields again is same, and good go agree with that america is using other country's powers. like hiring japaneese, persian, chineese, russian, spainsh and other country's smart people..

yes. Satanic Verses are written by Salman Rushdie. who right now is in France (and England).
this book is about a real event, that Prophect Muhammad in a place got some of Quran verses by Satan, and then he understood that those verses are by Satan, then removed them. and some other stories are in this book which mostly are horror.

i'm so happy to see someone exactly with same idea with me...

and remember don't mix iranians with other muslims. because literature Iran is one of the greatest in the world's history, while other muslim countries are so poor in literature. anyone who is disagree with me we can discuss but be sure that the person who is against iran's literature will fall before us... even if i wasn't a persian i would defend that... Hakeem Ferdowsi (my prophet), Hafez, Sa'di, Molavi, Nezaami, Khayyam, Attar and so on. in all fields. love, epic, eulogy, history, science, even erotic (iraj Mirzaa) iran has the best poets.
i said that because iran is counted an arab country by some of people which really makes us sick.

I heard about a great female warrior in iranian history (or mythilogy, I don't know) who is a kind of national heroin. Could you tell me her name (and her story if it's not asking too much)
and what about Rumi? his poetry is great!

I think true black metal heart is Scandinavia and now eastern Europe too!
for gothic, German rule!

Quote:
I have nothing against tolerant islam in traditionnal islamic countries, but when I see more and more womens wearing a veil, and more islamic communities becoming quite agressive in my country, I'm quite pissed off.

I also get pissed of when I see the acts of some muslims in europe believe me,but you should know that maybe the reason behind this is their ignorance, since most of the immigrant population are people who failed in having a position in their country, but still, you can check for example your universities where educated muslims get sent to persue their education,I have a lot of friends studying HEC in France and a lot more studying in Heidelberg and Hannover in Germany, they have not told me about embarassing things happening from the educated arab and muslim people but they don't deny the acts of some other ignorants. But still I don't agree with about the veil, because..

Quote:
we could analyse extremism as a way to "protect" a culture and country groing weaker, also to protest against the amiracnization of the world.

Yes I agree with you,but it's a deeply passive way to express protest,it makes those who adopt it look even more pathetic and vulnerable, curiously our bac exam today countained a text that deals with this very issue,it's about arabs still living on the memory of the past and being to proud to take full benefit of other nations evolution,it is just ridiculous.
Quote:
What do you personnaly think about the veil? isnt' it a sign of women's submission, womens as possessions of their husband?

The veil is not an essential thing in faith,I consider forcing women to wear the veil is a sign of opression but for her chosing to wear the veil (wether she is married or not) is I think acceptable,I personally don't care too much about the veil, because based on the goals of the sheria, the reason why the veil was mentionned is first of all to protect women and to make them have a proper decent look, but today,I think a woman can be a muslim and look proper and decent without wearing the veil, actaully there is a sheikh called Taher Bin Achour who is an explainer of the Quran, who said that the veil could not be seen as an essential thing in Islam,I don't know enough other opinions on this matter but our gouvernment adopt his view of the Quran and makes rules to prohibit the wearing of the veil in constitutions, which I am also against because I like to leave freedom for every woman to decide for herself without being pushed away by the gouvernment nor pushed into it by sciety.

@ Hamird
Why should anyone deny persian contribution to the world in many fields, actually I think that muslim civilization could have nor reached what theyt have reached in the past without taking benefits from other nations, actually not nation in the world achived a thing without translating others works and building on them,no people can stay closed on himself and be satisfied only by their own work because it will get them no where.Yes there some people who think all arabs are muslims and vice versa but it's because they don't know.
Still, no one can deny either the contribution of arabs in literature, not to mention medecine,astronomy.. All of us know for example 'The Devine Comedy' but very little people know that it was based on the translation of the arabic thinker Abul Ala Alma'ari masterpiece 'Resalat Alghoufran(english:The message of forgiveness)'..

By the way,I am not a fan either of the US metal at all and I think Agalloch is the most and one among few good metal bands from there, well, there my fav bands list speaks for me..

Talking historically here, do many Islamic countries remain proud of their pre-Islamic heritage? Besides the obvious example of Egypt, I know that Iran still holds the Zoroastrian Empire of Ancient Persia in very high esteem; many Central Asian nations claim Zoroaster/Zarathustra/Zartosht as being born in their land even though they are now Islamic countries, and even Pakistan and Afghanistan (pre-Taliban) maintain(ed) historical sites which are linked to pre-Islamic cultures (e.g. Indus Valley sites and Taxila ruins in Pakistan, Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan which are currently being rebuilt after the Taliban destroyed them). Turkey had the Hittites and the Byzantines, Tunisia had Carthage, Iraq had Sumeria and Babylon... Still proud, or is more emphasis put on the Islamic era?

well, Hamird, this is quite off-topic in this discussion (Islam and American metal? XD) but you can't deny the big role played by American bands, especially in the '80s and early '90s :p
Given that I like every country which helps metal spreading XD

i don't denied america. i said that america is powerful in death and thrash metal... but the Arab dude said that we cannot do anything in music without america, and i strongly disagree with that since america is not as powerful as he said in metal... most of genres are invented outside america in metal music....

@desertman: what is the relation between our discussion and pakistan? am i pakistani or something like that??? and there's no need to tell me is Israel is good or bad, because i am a huge fan of GOA and Psychedelic music which is originally Israeli. but the fact is that just Slayer is not enough to make conclusion that america is the best metal country...
why we are talking about this, in the topic of Islam??

p.s.
And good to understand that my personal opinions is not related to my country's political situation and I am not IR's president here. i hate IR too, and if i say i don't like america's music doesn't mean that i hate america's people and country
so know this and don't continue this cheap discussion any more... talk about your Islam

look the word 'allah' has nothing to do with islam it is just an arabic word that means god,see even arab jews and christians used the word 'allah' before islam hope it's clear, anyway it has no importance since it's a linguistic issue where the word came from.
-in the quran there was 25 apostles mentionned but of course that does not mean that they are the only apostles ever existed coz God says in the Quran

"We did aforetime send apostles before thee: of them there are some whose story We have related to thee, and some whose story We have not related to thee."

I don know But his father's parents should have been either jewish or christian... ok man forget it.

I wonder why some ppl say there were 124,000 prophets. is it true or what ?!

Don't wanna lead this to politics but let me to say that the situation in iran is pretty terrible.
just imagine, most of our people are waiting for a military attack by US.
the regime of islamic republic is extremely religiony! that kinda orthodox ones; more violent than churchs and priests of middle ages era.
