UPDATE: DAMNATED has brought to my attention that there is a thread talking about best album covers so from here (10/15/08), this thread is only regarding BAD album covers.

I like all of Emperor's covers. Burzum covers are pretty sweet too, along with Bathory's. But the band whose cover art failed terribly on every single album is definitely - Manowar.

Dan Seagrave drew the best album art there ever was - just take a look at Like An Ever Flowing Stream and Clandestine, need I say more? The worst album art for me would have to be Kill by Cannibal Corpse, really really thoughtless and boring, I loved the early Vincent Locke stuff like Butchered and Tomb and Eaten but these days the art seems to be less original looking and fairly computer orientated. The earlier art was the best in my opinion, made by real people with real paint and ink, call me old fashioned but todays covers just do not compare.

In my opinion, Mr. Evil Rob Darken of Graveland has the absolute worst covers. I understand that most metal bands don't make a lot of profit and may not have to expenses to hire someone to make a cover or buy rights to art to use, but Graveland's album covers are just awful. And maybe the guy just wants to live out his fantasy through his music. Regardless, they are still fucking horrible. My favorite: I can't decide which is worse: his hand drawn ones or his live action photos of himself in the woods.

LARPing is probably a dirty secret of more than a few metalstormers, but that doesn't mean you need to make your album cover out of it. Beautiful landscape though. He should just stick with random photos of scenery.

Album covers are really important for me. If a cover looks stupid, it makes me not want to buy or even listen to the album. Every manowar album -Gay Immortal: Battles In The North -There's tons of ridiculous black metal covers, but this one's the like ringleader of stupidity. I don't even have to explain it really. Destruction: The Least Successful Human Cannonball -First of all they just printed the logo in a basic font. Also It's not interesting at all, it's just some dude with his head in a cannon with a white background. Cannibal Corpse: Kill -These guys aren't one of my favourite bands but their covers are nuts. This one was so disappointing. Especially after the wretched spawn one. Regardless it's a great album. The upsoming finntroll album -I guess it's alright but I'm just bitter about how they changed the logo. I really liked the old one they used on their previous few albums but this one looks like it should be for a stoner band or something. Metallica: Death Magnetic -It looks like a hairy vagina There was also some exodus one that looked pretty stupid but I don't remember what it's called.

Here are some ones I find awful! Slayer - World Painted Blood (Great concept for the artwork, but it's poorly executed) Megadeth - Cryptic Writings Nuclear Assault - Out Of Order Metallica - St. Anger Entombed - Wolverine Blues Gamma Ray - Sigh No More Samson - Head On Heavenly - Carpe Diem Acid Reign - Obnoxious Kreator - Extreme Aggression (What makes this boring cover even worse, is there was far better original artwork for the album which got banned.  ) Lawnmower Deth - Billy Black Sabbath - Born Again Pantera - Metal Magic Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague (I actually thought 'KILL' was a good, to the point cover. They just wanted something simple for that. The artwork for the latest just seems very boring and terribly uninspired to me.) W.A.S.P. - Inside The Electric Circus Deicide - In Torment In Hell (Amazingly, the art is almost as bad as the album itself, though not quite!  )King Diamond - Conspiracy Helloween - Pink Bubbles Go Ape Dragonforce - Ultra Beatdown Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death (The artwork is so bad, that the artist wanted his name removed from the album credits! He actually hadn't finished it, and thats why he was so mad.  )Im sure there are loads more, but those are all I'll put for just now.
