No official Satyricon thread ?!? ok here it is !
I don't want to write a wide monologue about how i feel about the band, so i'll just give you the short version:
Satyricon: you should all know them! they've been my favourite band for quite a long time, it's hard to decide which album attracts me the most, but i'd say it's DMT. Many people don't like their later material (after Nemesis Devina), but come on Rebel Extravaganza is also a masterpiece, the main problem about this album is that it comes after their legendary 3rd album - Nemesis Devina. But i'd call RE a great example of moderen black metal that is not yet sell-out. About Vulcano - yeah, it's not that good album, but still there are some good songs to be found on it. After this album we all hoped that Satyricon would return to their roots, but they turned in totally different direction- towards mtv
So i guess that is a fatal downfall, for the Kings of Black metal

Sad ending of a story... But i have i wonderful news for my Slovenian friends! I've heared Satyricon are coming to Slovenia this autumn!! (sorce: http://www.rockthenation.at/index.php?id=37)

I recently brought Now, Diabolical. And it's the greatest album I've heard in a while.

Anyway, to the main point I was planning on. What should be the next Satyricon album I should buy? (Would be grateful if you gave me a quick PM.)

Go for Dark Medieval Times. It's very different to Now, Diabolical, but you should still like it.

Yes, DMT is amazing album, puts you in a special atmosphere, it has just transphered me in those mistic medieval times with frozen Norvegian coldness.
After DMT don't forget to listen to all the stuff till Now, Diabolical.

I think that every bad should go farther and find some new point of view for it's music. What they did in past was great but they still have a lot to tell about...and they do that through amazing music! Isn't it so?!

That is right! I can only add that proceed is one of the most important aspect in art... searching for new ways of expression then copy earlier solutions...

First heard the song (guess which one?) Mother North about a year ago. I didn't pay it too much attention back then, but this summer I got to hear the Dark Medieval Times album and was blown away! I love atmospheric stuff and the mix with medieval inspired flutes was great. I then started to buy their releases.
I saw them in Stockholm a couple of days ago. Great show! They played all of my favourites (Walk the path of sorrow, Hvite Krists Død, Forhexet, Mother North). 2 extra numbers! The band was extremly satisfied too according to Satyr.

Their last albums have not been as good the earlier. Still they are not doing any "In Flames-letdown", the new Satyricon is ok, but not more. But I don't have any problem with Rebel Exrtravaganza, good album.

Apparently the lyrics of DMT are unknown by everyone save Satyr etc. They were never printed in the CD booklet and don't appear on the official site or anything and they're not articulate enough to work out yourself so nobody knows it would seem....

I wish I could already speak Norwegian! It is so interesting language, especially I like the stress and the tone of nasal.

I'm guessing your learning bokmal as opposed to nynorsk? And I don't have the time to learn Norwegian, I'm doing Swedish atm (far more esoteric haha!)!

But still, his vocals...you can't make out what he's saying. I mean, if you listen to bands singing in other languages you can hear the words clearly even if you can't understand them. I haven't a clue where to start with DMT.

If I was in Norway, I would be considered a very true-necro-cult guy, as the only words I know in that language are those black metal had taught me.... "svart", "skog", "sorg" etc etc... imagine someone only saying those kind og words...

Yes, I am learning bokmal... Swedish is very similar (like almost all Scandinavian languages) to Norwegian... we can be able to talk each other, hehe
You have right that "...you can hear the words clearly even if you can't understand them". But I think is good to understand what I can hear...
DMT is still "lyrical" mysterious album... for me.

Indeed, Norwegian (Scandinavian) speech tones are unusual and unique... and beautiful... and perfectly fits to BM!

Haha, fuck norwegian! For us swedes, that is like a nerdy version of our language (I'm sure that norwegians feel the same about swedish) and that is why we can't find those Black metal songs written in norwegian to be cool. Mostly it's the accent which we hate ... because our languages are almost the same. Lets take some Black metal song examples (norwegian first, swedish second):
"Du som hater Gud" = "Du som hatar Gud"
"Min hyllest til Vinterland" = "Min hyllning till vinterland"
"Skyggedans" = "Skuggdans"
"På slagmark langt mot nord" = "På slagmark långt mot nord"
"Det nye riket" = "Det nya riket"
"Under korpens vinger" = "Under korpens vingar"

No my friend, I highly disagree with you. I love the Norwegian languange since it is more exotic than our swedish, YET I AM ABLE TO UNDERSTAND IT. It brings a very unique feeling listening to a foreign laguage wich is so simple to understand and yet so mystic.

I very much so love Norwegian and I find your statement silly. Must be because you live in stockholm that you are so full of prejudices. (And its becuase I live in skåne I have prejudices against stockholm.....^^ )

I really apologise so much for this insane off topic!!!

Maybe I should've said this in my first post: I do think norwegian is a funny language, but still, I also like it. Norway for me is like that "funny guy" in your class, he does the most ridiculous stuff and you can't help laughing at him ... and you do like him, whether you want it or not.
As a Swedish person, it is my duty to fuss with Norway. Just as it is my sacred duty (being from Stockholm) to "hate" Gothenburg
