I can't believe nobody has started a Megadeth thread yet. Not only are they a well-known thrash band, but there's always been so much controversy around them because of the Mustaine-haters.

Have fun discussing.

I just read in this article that Dave Mustaine said this will be the final Megadeth album.

This will have been at least the third 'swan song' album from Mustaine...

Yeah so I sort of assume. Didnt he disband Megadeth before 'the System Has Failed' was released?

has anybody else seen the new megadeth video for "a tout le monde" ft cristina scabbia? Dave's face in the end is hilarious!
The new version isn't so bad, took we a little while too get into it though. If you haven't seen the video just go to megadeth.com and it will be there. Hope the new album is good, seeing Megadeth with Heaven and Hell would be great.

That's why Ellefson is so pissed off at Mustaine (not to mention Pitrelli and DeGrasson)...and why they didn't rejoin when he reformed.

Well, it seems as if Megadeth is going to shit...sure, they're a tour de force but their recent albums hold no weight...and there is no use reworking songs at all...that won't do Mustaine any justice in my book...

Okay WARNING, do not, I repeat do NOT buy United Abominations.

Totally uninspired piece of unfocused drabness. Lacking any sense of direction or good songs.
At least The System Has Failed had its moments, whereas United Abominations just goes from bad to A Tout Le Monde (feautring pop star Scristina Scabbia) My god the orignal version of A Tout Le Monde was already bad but this is even worse.

I don't really agree. This is an album that needs a few listens and it's a pretty good album when you're into it. Not their best but good enough. I rate it 75/100.

I do agreee about "A tout le monde".... Megadeth don't need a popstar for their music....

Hhahaha, good to see we can also disagree on this sort of metal. I've listened to it about 7 times now and I still stand by what I said in my post above yours
I think I would rate it 6-6.5/10

6-6,5 is good enough lol
Anyway, after reading your post, I was little dissapointed cause I always expect so much from them. I don't want any more songs like A Tout Le Monde, but is it really important what I want? lol I don't think that they care much. But I will buy album anyway, I want to hear it, System has Failed is solid album for me, at least much better than Risk or Crypting Writtings.

I hadn't even paid attention to the new Megadeth CD until I got the promo last week... and then I saw the new version listed in the tracklist and gave an "uh oh" reaction in my head. Then I see that it's one of the promoted tracks! I never understood why so many of my friends liked that track back in the 90s - I've always found the closer Megadeth gets to ballads, the worse the songwriting. The "new" version, I agree, is pointless - worse than the original. I'm a big fan of Lacuna Coil as well (though not since their 2003 disc) - but only an ignorant music fan would miss that this is a marketing ploy to have her on this disc!

Lately I've been arguing with friends and sometimes in this forum about older bands who have evolved yet still put out worthwhile music. This, however, is NOT a release I would defend. The first track made me hopeful, but after that it just is forgettable.

hehe I remember that Megadeth's songs used to change and even progress. Now, they're predictable.

Dave really needs to stop the voice over crap that he's been doing for the last decade.

Yeah. Imho the album is not as bad as some people here make it to be. "Megadeth is going to shit", c'mon! Megadeth was shit when they did "Risk". UA is a really nice album, I like it even better than TSHF. It has many thrashy moments, just like in the old days. I also found that the songs sounded more Megadeth-like than ever, at least compared to the last albums. I wouldn't rate this as high as their best stuff, but imho it can compete with "Coutdown to Extinction" or "Youthanasia".

Well, there I things I really dislike about the album though. First the countless news excerpts which sound dumb, I already hated them in TSHF. Second the remake of "A tout le monde" which I always skip. Third... the lyrics. They sound just so stupid many times. "Hey Jihad Joe, we're coming to get you!" or the lyrics of Sleepwalker where the speaker talks about killing in his dreams and then he wakes up save in his little bed and everything is fine. Erm, lol, I think Megadave has written better lyrics. When I figured out that "United Abominations" is a pun on the "United Nations" I disliked it even more....

hahahaha

I have no idea what mustaine was trying to do , neither i like the album .... uttar crap ablum was that. All good bands coming up with album this year , but most of the albums are okiesh ... very few band with solid kickass albums and very few band with bad album. Megadeth and Dimmu Borgir's new album is very bad .... if Megadeth keep playing this way , then.....

United Abominations wasn't quite lower nor higher than my expectations. I've given the album about 3 listens now and none of the songs really grasped me. Sleepwalker wasn't too bad, but most of the album is just rather average in my opinion. I probably need to give the album a few more listens to possibly let it grow on me, however for the moment, I can safely say that I preferred The System Has Failed.

As for their new version of A Tout Le Monde, I really dislike it. There's not as much emotion in Mustaine's vocals as the original had and I personally don't like the addition of the female (Cristina Scabbia's) vocals. They just didn't fit in well.

Overall, there are some good songs on the album, however it's quite an average album for me.

So I just watched the video for the new version of A Toute Le Monde....what the f*ck is with that video?, and no after reading my post, dont bother watching it, I'll sum it up for you, Christina Scabbia oogling Dave through the tv, Dave making stupid faces and then....well no and then, thats about it. What I dont get about that video (other than the entire plot itself) is it shows Christina watching Megadeth videos on her TV then it shows her singing into the phone....she can pay phone bills and she has enough money to get cable....yet she cant pay to get the big gaping hole in her apartment wall fixed.

...I should really stop ranting about a stupid music video.

Yeah I know, Dave Mustaine seems to make stupid faces in music videos, but I think hes outdone himself this time, it looks like hes wearing lipstick, and having something shoved in his sphincter.

And Ill repeat my message to Christina: if you have no running water in your house, and a big gaping hole in your wall, phone bills should not be something you should worry about.

Yeah seeing as hes scrawny, and anyone whos seen his interviews sees how whiney he is, and a whiner isnt very intimidating. Though he did tell that story about breaking the guy from Armoured Saints leg for f*cking with Lars (on the Some Kind Of Monster dvd)

@White Winter Sun: Man you are like a machine with these information updates! Keep up the good work, lazy people like me love having awesome dudes like yourself handing us stuff on a plate! In all seriousness, thanks a lot for these snippets of news and clips.

In other stuff, "Hangar 18" continues to defy me on Guitar Hero II! Goddammit, I've done everything up to that point on the 'Hard' difficulty, and can do this song fine until it changes time signature and tempo, when I die...
