While the concept of a band accessibilizing their sound upon signing to a major label has plenty of examples in rock and metal history, it has become much less of a factor in the modern music landscape; that doesn’t mean that it never happens, though.

I liked what they've released before, and I always thought that Coma was exactly at the right spot in terms of balancing the black metal origins with some post metal sensibilities. I do not hate this album, but I'd rather have it with one less spoon of sugar.

Oh well, I didn't like Shining by Swallow The Sun for the same reasons when it came out, but it grew on me. Maybe this one will, too.

This album feels like it plays longer than its actual run time. It has its moments, but tends to run in the dregs of monotony for the majority of the body of the tracks.

I like parts of the album but I can't deny that it's a bigger step into metalcore territory than I would have preferred. When they were releasing singles I liked the new vocal style because it added another way for them to have some variance in their songs but, as I was worried about, that became what every song was building to which makes it not very interesting. A lot of the writing just doesn't do anything for me and there are only a couple songs I'll actually want to relisten to. It's a shame because Coma felt like they finally got everything right.

Loss is not a bad album. They totally nail what they're going for but it's just not what a number of their fans wanted, myself included. I can't fault them for trying because sometimes you just have to go for it and see what happens. So I guess we'll see if they continue down this path or do something different next time.

A unique album! I don't know what its weakness is, or when you hear a little more mind and ideas put into incredible melodies, it makes you feel sick?! It's touched from everywhere from sound to production, and I have nothing to say about the performance - perfect! I wasn't a fan of the band until this moment with this album! Bravo Gaerea!!!

I could never got into their brand of black metal and this output most certainly isn't going to change that. Bloody awful 🤮 Last song gave me a serious headache.

It's unbelievable, there are such hater comments about this album... I'm not a fan and their previous albums tired me out with monotony, but this one is different. Wonderful performances, even though it's more melodic, but that's in a good direction for them.

I don't want to offend, but madam, do you have any idea about music?! The whole album is a level above their old nonsense. Overall - a musical gem! Please listen to it at least 5 times...

I was never really into Gaerea, and I probably wouldn’t even have tried it if not for @corrupt telling me it’s metalcore. Mind you, I’m not a big metalcore fan, but I have my shortlist of bands I do enjoy a lot, so this got me curious.

I have to say I did like this quite a bit on first listen. I always felt Gaerea was too polished and bombastic for black metal, a bit overproduced (for my taste). But now playing metalcore ? That sound is spot on! One of the main reasons I’m not a big Metalcore fan is that I can’t stand the usual whiny clean vocals, but here they are to my liking. They sound rather atmospheric and ethereal, more than poppy and “catchy”.

The one album this reminded me of the most is Imminence’s The Black which I really liked! It sounds big, dark, emotional, and has elements that metalcore normally doesn’t have, especially blasts.
Also the harsh-y clean singing reminded a lot of Parkway Drive at times, also one my favourite metalcore bands.

However, parts of the last track sounds like something Sleep Token would do.. And I hope that’s not a hint at what they’ll do next though, because that doesn’t speak to me in any way.

Gotta say I really enjoy this album, I think even more than Coma. I've heard it a few times now and it hasn't diminished with time. I'm not really a black metal guy so their new direction is one I prefer, though I hadn't really taken note of what their modern sound might be called.

That said there are many bands I've felt a similar frustration towards once they started moving away from what I liked about them and became more commercialised, so I feel you, fans of older Gaerea.
