There's no doubt Dimmu Borgir have earned their way to being one of the most prosperous bands in black metal, but scrutiny has rightfully or wrongfully always followed the success every step of the way.

Almost nothing grabbed my attention on first listen but it gets better every time I listen to it and I really enjoy it and find it has many memorable moments now.

Listened to whole album. Very generic and boring without any memorable song, but to be honest, I didn't even have any high expectations from this boyband.

Being over an hour in length seems a touch longer than necessary to me but I do think it's a good album overall, definitely a grower and slightly better than I had expected for sure. The symphonic orchestrations are top-notch, and I like it's dark cinematic atmosphere and melodies too.

I’d listen the first 10 seconds of Mourning Palace on repeat for 6 hours without getting bored, but this is not worth a second listen in 2026. Not surprised after the singles but there was a tiny part in me that was hoping the rest album would be better. Nope. Thank you, next.

Guy above me didn't even bother removing the chatgpt formatting from his "review"

HammBurger paid him $5 to leave a positive review, not to edit it so it didn't look like it was generated in 3 seconds What can you expect from such music thieves? They're still profiting from Mustis, whose art was the only good thing that ever happened. It's a shame human memories are so short. I bet you this band's next album will be entirely AI-generated, including the cover and reviews.

Nobody paid me, and this is the opinion of everyone on the net about the album and it is collected in a review! Weak souls listening to elementary music started commenting on things they don't understand... Dimmu Borgir is an institution and no matter how much you spit, you only show an inability to adequately assess. This is the new DB from 2026 and nothing more... I'm glad there's something new from them... I don't care about anything else.

I wonder if the bands read our comments here?! If so, I hope Shagrath hears this and appoints these wonderful musicians - drums, bass and keyboard - as permanent members, and not keeps you in studio contracts.

Music is a subjective experience

proceeds to get angry about the experiences of others

Best since In Sorte. Too long for its own sake but nonetheless it's not bad.

Woah, woah, woah, wait, wait, wiat...waaaaaait...

I gave this album a second and third time a chance to listen to it carefully, 'cause I realized that a few hidden gems are out there from this melody to that riff, to those blast beets, to those choirs, and the piano parts, and Shagrath's awesome vocals while spinning the whole album, and it is surprisingly good and atmospheric. From time to time at several moment it reminded me quite a lot was sounding like 'In Sorte Diaboli', even the drum sound is similar.

There were also moments that I was guessing how the riffs and the melodies could be escalated or even changed, and I was like: "Oh, this is even better than I thought"; I wouldn't even change anything from these parts.

I am not gonna lie, I was prepared; I had in a total preparation a really low expectations and low hopes.

I would rate it as 8.5/10, but it's not that close to rate as 9/10, but giving it an 8 with love.

Well done, Dimmu Borgir!

Plus one hour long didn't help to grab my attention at times. But it's growing ever since. Guys don't know how to make bad music.

Somehow they made a new guitarist a perm member but I don’t think they will make others too as it’s case of money rights. Maybe he composed
a lot on the new album or maybe it’s their best pal? Session musicians earn much less and probably only when they are actually at work like on b2b contract

But their last 5 album are not that great either. They haven’t released proper banger since DCA

The guitar dude was/is on Chrome Division also, Shag's side project, for years. probably a good pal of his.

I guess this is a little better than Eonian but they're both really forgettable. Neither album should have taken 8 years to make, however that makes sense since the remaining members have been out of new ideas for over 20 years.
