GuitarWorld.com is reporting that Fender - the well-known American manufacturer and marketer of several musical instruments and amplifiers - has begun enforcing a recent German court ruling that recognizes the Stratocaster body shape as a protected work of applied art under EU copyright law.

Following that decision, the company has issued cease-and-desist notices to multiple boutique builders producing these "S-style" guitars, including at least one US-based manufacturer (LsL Instruments), marking the first known wave of direct enforcement.

The move targets instruments closely resembling the Stratocaster silhouette and has triggered debate in the industry over the legal reach of the ruling and its potential impact on independent guitar makers.

Swapped from a strat to PRS a few years ago and it was infinitely better, plus I'm finding fender strings to have horrible value recently, burning through them in less than a month. I use D'addarios for my seven string and will probably use them across my six strings going forward.

Shit does that mean the PRS SE Silver Sky is a goner? Not a huge John Mayer fan or anything but I always thought those guitars looked awesome and wanted one for my next guitar! Fender cucking the shit out of us in 2026..

This is very amusing case knowing how common it is for these companies to plagiarize each other. Like did you know, that Marshall amps are based on Fender design and Fender was based on some other unnamed amp? Modern high gain amps are based on Soldano SLO-100, which in turn was just a juiced up Marshall. I presume they went to European court because American system is more tolerating towards this type of reverse engineering and idea theft.
