Sweden might be best known for Melodic Death, but there are also some regular Death Metal bands hiding here as well. Kaamos might be one of our best, hidden treasures.
With just one release behind them, (self-titled debut from 2002) Kaamos now returns with "Lvcifer Rising" an album from a band that's really rising.

With fast drums and killing guitars Kaamos delivers one of the best Death Metal albums I ever crossed ways with.
I'm not really into extreme music, but I have Death as my favourite in front of Black and Grind, but I have to admit that this is good. Great melodies (there are melodies), lyrics and arrangements. I know Kaamos produced their debut on their own, but with this I don't know, but I assume they did the same here, and they did a great job too.

On their debut, they had no other than Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) as engineer, but if he inspired Kaamos to what I'm about to write I don't know, but how knows?
And what I'm about to write is something I heard early with "Lvcifer Rising", the guitars sounded quite similar to guitars used in faster Doom Metal, the riffs are longer and a bit slower, and it makes it a little more interesting, at least for me that's way more into Doom than Death.
But in general, this is Death Metal and not even close to Doom, except this "discovery" I made.

On the other half, the negative things about the whole package are only the usual ones when it comes to more "brutal" metal, the variation isn't that big (even if Kaamos guitars makes the listening experience slightly better) and the length, even if 37 min is pretty long for this kind of music. And of course the titles, I mean, how in hell will I explain to someone that I like the song "Chthonic" or "Theriomorphic Pandaemonium" when I barely can pronounce them? Hehe.

But otherwise I don't have much to complain about, I can only admit that I found myself brutal Death Metal album I like, an album that will be played many times ahead, when I need to refuel myself. And I recommend you to give Kaamos a chance; you might discover a pearl, who knows?
