This is a true masterpiece. Comparing to the debut album music is a bit heavier and a lot more technical. Also this album contains some of my favourite Nevermore songs like "This Sacrament", "Next in Line" and the self-titled track. But the other songs are just about as good so it's really a solid album without distinctive weaknesses. At least to my ears.

Probably my favourite nevermore album overall, it has plenty of awe-inspiring riffs and warrel dane's vocals on 'the learning' are probably some of his best. Great release.

Definitely agree, this is my favourite Nevermore release which is not an easy decision for me. Flawless from beginning to end, shame it's overlooked in light of later albums.

Yes it is definitely overlooked because of albums like 'dead heart in a dead world', which, though still very good, are slightly overrated if im honest. This album is the one where nevermore finally discovered their true, identifiable sound.

Remembered to listen to this again because of the anniversary of Tiananmen Square protests. It's funny that it still gives me that same feeling after so many years.
Nevermore really does make me experience unique stuff with their music. Not only brilliant musically, but also always mind-provoking. It's so technical and catchy at the same time, as well as diverse, that's probably the secret. In terms of songwriting, I couldn't ask for more.

I go back and forth on where I see this album compared to Nevermore's other work. DHiaDW and TGE are both great, but have down moments. TPoE is probably their most consistent release, beginning to end. So even though I think the albums that followed were a bit more ambitious in scope, TPoE probably comes closest to realizing its own potential. There's a lot to be said for that.
This was also the first Nevermore album I ever listened to, so there's sentimental value in it for me.

Those lyrics on The Politics of Ecstasy are so powerful, and the way Dane perform them makes it all the more special.

Can't for the life of me understand how they thought that artwork and not using the Nevermore logo were good ideas. Still the only Nevermore full-length I have yet to listen to in its entirety.
I miss this band.

Well while I certainly can't say this is my fave song of the album, there sure aren't any bad ones on Politics....

It's a very consistent album for sure. Which songs do you prefer? I'm not sure if Seven Tongues is my favourite here, Next In Line and the title track might be a little bit better.

almost all of the actually, but particularly This Sacrament, Next In Line, Lost, 42147, and The Learning. Can't choose tighter than that

Underrated a lil' bit. Most Nevermore albums are bloated by how many tracks they got.
Does anyone sound like them these days?

Very heavy and more technical. It has some standout tracks like "The Seven Tongues Of God", "Next in Line", "The Politics Of Ecstasy", "The Tiananmen Man" and "The Learning".
