Graveworm's first few albums displayed a band that excelled in combining black metal with gothic melodies and atmosphere. Instead of improving on those strengths - the band started a move towards riff-oriented songs that placed speed and aggression over atmosphere. This kind of mixture lead to the loss of most of the gothic elements with only simple keyboard parts left to remind of the band's past. These new riff-oriented albums weren't necessarily bad, but they did suffer from a lack of dynamics and complexity and they had a general feeling of repetitiveness throughout. In addition, their new direction disappointed a lot of the fans that enjoyed the gothic atmospheres and powerful keyboard/violin melodies. After listening to Fragments of Death, it seems that the band might be attempting to win back the old fans while not rejecting current fans in the process.

They have a new album coming out already? I highly doubt it will impress anyone.

The last two did not impress me at all , and though I enjoyed (N)Utopia it felt that they were going downhill after it . shame on them , they were a great band once

Album not bad. Better then "Diabolical Figures"!!!
"Absence Of Faith" - best song in my opinion. In style "Engraved..."
"Old Forgotten Song", "See No Future" very good.
But in album very much swotting (strikes).
Many songs need slowly rate(speed) (atmosphere pauses in tracks) such as "Engraved..."
My English is bad.

I like it thus far. I don't miss the screams at all, his growls sound much more natural. Definitely better than their last three albums.

Honestly, I think this is the best Graveworm record since "Engraved in Black". It's quite consistent from start to finish, though I still can't grasp how well the band's melodic death metal interpretation works with their original symphonic black metal influences. As a matter of fact, the two sub-genres coalesce here, making way for an overall solid, fresh sound which, if not altogether flawless, demonstrates a certain level of nostalgia for the fans of Graveworm's older work. Highlights for me would be "Insomnia", "Absence of Faith" and bonus track "Awake".
