Consistency is what MB are about, first impression is good.

EDIT : Marvelous epic songwriting, magnificent lyrics and an overall crushing release. We still have Procession and Officium Triste this year so it's already a great year for doom

The whole album is on Spotify, so if you're too cheap to buy it, listen to it there.

This album was my first proper experience with Mourning Beloveth and after a couple of playthroughs of it I am very impressed to say the least. The thing that stood out to me the most were the excellent use of clean vocals that really added a lot to the otherwise bone crushing sound. When it comes to clean vocals, especially in doom, I am usually very picky but in this case I can definatively not complain. As a matter of fact, I find it very difficult to complain about any aspect of this album and it will take a lot of effort for other doom bands to be able to top this in my opinion.

Rather surprised by the use of clean vocals. Granted, I barely know the previous LP, so maybe they went this direction before. But I really like the powerful, epic-doom-like vocal sound and melodies. Much moreso than the half-melodic, MDB-inspired recital on Sullen Sulcus (not that the album isn't otherwise amazing).

Perhaps not quite as tight and intense as I would like, but top-notch doom nonetheless. Magic Circle already released an awesome record and there's Procession, Orchid and Atlantean Kodex to come so I know this won't reach quite the top of my doom list, but whatever! Solid.

They've used clean vocals on every single album before, so right from the very first one, so please go to sleep mister-who-doesn't-know-what-he's-talking-about-at-all.

Like twice on SS, for some flavor. Dunno about the others. But after two spins of this, I could swear there are several songs pretty much driven by the clean vocals. (I can't say which ones, I haven't followed what was playing.)

Could be wrong, but that's the impression that most stood out after listening. Maybe the vocal melodies are just better? Either way, the dynamic feels different.

By far it's their best

Their debut and sophomore releases are both superior to this (by a lot). This is a great album, but not their best by any means.

First and foremost, I simply prefer the songwriting on the first two. The riffing, leads, vocals, melodies, all much more appealing to me on the first two records. Another factor that makes their early works (and specifically the debut) stand out is the production. The production on Dust is absolutely stunning, helping to create a dense and intense atmosphere which I adore.

I agree somewhat with you, the production on Dust was outstanding for making the atmosphere you mentioned, but I prefer the songwriting on this new one more and that makes it the best for me.

I think it's hard for music to get more beautiful than this.
They really know how to deliver the goods, this album, and specially, "Nothing Has A Centre", are pure musical beauty delivered in a Doom metal package, nuff said.

You're both wrong, because The Sullen Sulcus is their best album.

Before judging Dust, keep in mind the actual album isn't very long: 56 minutes. The song "It Almost Looked Human" is from The Sullen Sulcus and "Forever Lost Emeralds" is a demo track (and a very boring track as well). Not all the tracks on Dust are as awesome for me, but The Sullen Sulcus is continuously excellent. All those tracks are among their best overall tracks in my opinion.

Gonna be honest I listened to it again and while it's mostly solid, it's really, really bloated. Namely, Ethics on the Precipice is like 10 minutes too long. The others are also just "good" as compared to the wonderful material presented on Dust, SS, and Disease. There's not two discs worth of good or great material here is the issue really. The great bits are stretched too far apart. If they had cut it down to say, an hour even, it'd be better.

so, down from 67 to 60 minutes? Not much of a cut down, now is it?

EDIT: Oops, forget what I said. Forgot to count the 14 minutes of disc two

This is a bit in style of funeral doom, slow motion album. Some songs can be discused what genre it is even it is death/doom, but a bit out of what you could think it can sound. A bit Evoken style music in some point. I like song dead channel. Its awesome, stronghold of album and its in death/doom what I like, maybe best song in clean vox in a genre(who knows)
