Manowar's made of steel, not clay, but age has not looked kindly upon them or their defiance, and this is one album that I seem to like less every time I listen to it in full. The Triumph Of Steel is a triumph piecemeal: it’s a platform for some classics pockmarked by filler, muddied by lifeless production, practically dead on arrival thanks to its importunate herald.

In many ways, "Triumph Of Steel" is the closest thing to a consistent Manowar album. Everybody but the staunchest of fans will agree that the average Manowar album sports more than a couple killer tracks but is just the same riddled by fillers and silliness. However, on "Triumph Of Steel" Manowar manage to package every aspect of the latter category into the opening "Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy in Eight Parts", allowing the listener to comfortably ignore it and enjoy the remaining seven tracks. This is actually quite a pity since the album's would-be center point does have some really catchy and punchy heavy metal to it and certainly some of the best lyrics bassist and chief songwriter Joey DeMaio has ever penned down. But the grating bass solo and the even worse drum solo alone (not that those are the songs only faults) suffice to tip the scales in favour of the skip button.

Hail From Greece

why doesn't that surprise me? The kings of gayass cheese are still immensely popular in Greece and Germany and that's about it

Manowar true metal they are the biggest posers around in the metal world even more so than the so-called glam metal bands from the Eighties. They even rip off their own fans ffs

The fact that you even buy into this whole "true metal" bs is lolworthy .

That this whole thing pretty much came from Gayowar is just one more reason to hate them.

This album is an uninspired turd. Sounds like they had completely run out of ideas for this one. The first track is an unnecessarily long snoozefest.

A masterpiece! That's what I though the first time I heard this album. Later, I got quite bred and haven't listened to the whole release for a long time. Definately not as good as their first 4 albums but very good compared to their later stuff.

Agree, maybe I would listen parts 6 and 8 again.

Surprisingly this is pretty good. The first song is mostly filler (except parts 6 & 8) and so are these overlong intros in some of the songs. "Metal Warriors", "Ride The Dragon", "The Power Of Thy Sword" and especially "Master Of The Wind" on the other hand make this one of the strongest Manowar albums IMO.

Never liked this one. The opening song could be decent if they shaved off 15 (!) minutes and the second part of the album feels plodding. Some of the songs has potential but apart from some strong riffs there's not much else to praise. The last song Master of the Wind is possibly the best one on the album, sounds like a follow up to Heart of Steel.

First Manowar-album I bought back in my youth (before I had even heard of them = 10/10 front cover for a 13-year old). Much is shit in the opening track, but there are some amazing moments:
01:00-03:00 Those riffs 💪
03:45-04:50 Eric Adams 👌
13:30-15:20 Eric Adams ❤️
16:10-19:40 Metal 🍺
23:28-26:30 More metal 🍻

There are some good tracks on here but this is definitely where the band settles into a pattern of mining into previous material without coming up with new inspiration. I remember feeling at the time that Triumph really felt like they were missing the old magic of the classic line-up - and unquestionably Ross The Boss.

Agree with the comment above that the 30 minute opener has some great moments - largely courtesy of Eric but also some decent pummelling metal. Metal Warriors, Cherokee, Power of Thy Sword all good and Master of the Wind is a decent ballad. But nothing here meets the extremely high expectations created by the old material - Battle Hymn, Gates of Valhalla, Hail to England, Blood of My Enemies, Black Wind Fire And Steel, Defender, Crown And The Ring, Heart of Steel etc etc.

I think this is a pretty good album. The opener song, while often difficult to listen to due to its length and many stops is actually one of the most creative songs the band has even written, and has great musicianship and songwriting. Rest of the songs are very enjoyable to listen to, with again great performances by the band members. Fantastic vocals, awesome bass, great solos and top notch drumming. I especially have a blast listening to The Power Of Thy Sword, Ride The Dragon and Spirit Horse Of The Cherokee. Master Of The Wind is also pretty good. Not as good as the best Manowar albums but still a very good album.

The opener has a lot of lame parts, but also absolute highlights. In sum it brings my vote down by 1.

The second half on the other side is good (all but Burning) to masterpiece (Spirit Horse Of The Cherokee, The Power Of Thy Sword, Master Of The Wind).
