You may be asking "What is the point of this review for Lake Of Sorrow now, when everybody has already heard of them, or because so many other different, or similar, music exists?" I'd say, because this album in particular, needs more attention on Metal Storm. While there are still many active Gothic bands out there, I believe there are rarely albums which come close to this one.

Magical record. Maybe the best violin work by Pete Johansen too.

This is the closest I ever found to early Tristania. It is a shame this genre has not many noteworthy bands...
It is not as good as Tristania with Morten imho due to the lack of interesting melodies and the songwriting in general. They needed to add a slow first part in every song in order to make the second part good. But still I really enjoyed this, the atmosphere is right there.
Highlights:
01. My Love
04. Lake Of Sorrow
05. Until The Dark
07. Silent Pain

You're starting from a high level and your journey is at risk of becoming a very strenous trip, full of privation, maybe even a Trail Of Tears if you don't watch your step. Because in my opinion this is the peak of (symphonic) gothic metal, the only way back is downwards. The first two Sirenia albums and maybe also Tristania's debut are roughly comparable and (almost) on a par, but that's about it.
Godspeed!

yeah but I don't really look for an improvement, I kinda just wanna get more into it. And I'm not only talking about this symphonic variant, also something like Tiamat or even Funeral falls under the same kind of music to me and is what I'm gonna listen to more of. Thanks a lot of the recommendations, I'll check em out!

Great album! The closest sounding album to Tristania and early Sirenia that I've heard, and really liked. It's a shame they only managed two albums. Symphonic gothic metal acts such as these seem to have been lost nowadays.

another long gone mid 90's gothic, death doom band, what really should put out new album out, or put band to rest. I really miss the days when I did listen them.

Velvet darkness they copied. No they did not its just same genre(I disagree its close to Tristania, maybe widow weeds eras) (another band cames in my mind is Dismal Euphony) , but Amita's voice reminds me Liv in that album. Good doom vibes, violins, influences, death metal grunts. Death doom and longer compositions what get moarnful in time when you listen it. Just an amazing album.
