You know you're getting old when two things happen: you start watching Supermarket Sweep highlights on YouTube just for fun, and when you put on an album like this one here you swell up with stupid nostalgia for the early 80s. Secretary of the Interior James Watt, speed metal, and the Chevy Chevette? By the splendor and kind wisdom of Jaws 3, how one wishes to be back.

Then again, it'd be around 7 years after Jaws 3 came out that I was even conceived, so, plainly, there's some kind of spacetime folding, Morgan Freeman's wormhole voodoo that these guys have achieved on this. No other explanation. It sounds like it came out of the early 80s and it makes me think I know what I'm talking about when I bring up that shitty period?this is the kind of album that, as far as a 90s-ite can tell, makes you feel like you were there, like you had the mullet and the spiked leather jacket, the Chevette and the leafy weed.

But you can throw on Iron Fist or Tor Mega Therion for the same early(ish) 80s feel, and it would be way more authentic and rewarding. What Pest put out here, a black/speed metal record with plenty of homagery to Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, is another case of throwback music that seems to have as its main impetus the revival of old production-styles over piss and vinegar. Which, to be fair, can't be complained about too much in this case (these guys play well enough throughout), though, there's just not much substance on this. The Crowning Horror is a production-first kind of thing, the tunes seem secondary.

I haven't heard this album but I never liked this band at all.

I like this one. They have gone in a totally different direction. Not a direction I typically like, but there's something laid back and kinda catchy (despite the horrific production). I liked their previous album and haven't heard their earlier stuff, which I heard wasn't very good.

Not sure how I would classify this band. Mostly black metal with a NWOBH riff thrown in here and there. The vocals are pretty good and varied. I think it's good background black metal/metal.
