Recorded late 1995/early 1996. Released August 20th, 1996 in the U.S.; issued on the 26th of the same month in the U.K.
The cassette lists side A a Love, side B as Hate. Also incorrectly lists track 2 as 'Sterile' and track 3 as 'Prophet'.

Re-issued in 2009 as part of a double-CD + DVD package.

I really did not expect to hear hip hop (??) influence in godflesh. I do not say that incorporating hip hop is essentially a bad thing but godflesh must be bludgeonny and abrasive not cool and fun. Moreover, clean vox are overused

Back in the day Broadrick confessed that the sound of a drum machine on 'Streetcleaner' was highly inspired by hip hop artists from the late 80s, especially this shit:

probably, but since I am a hip hop noob I could not recognize these influences on streetcleaner. I rechecked pure today and it also had some hip hop moments but still managed to have this antagonistic mechanical tone which IMO is missing on SoLaH. I think that hip hop influences were not as omnipresent on earlier godflesh as this one

Decent album, nothing more. At this point, and I say this even considering the experimental nature of some of these songs, it seems to me Godflesh were running out of momentum. Then again, it's standard quality for the band's musical output too, so I guess it's an unrelated point to make. Whatever, still a good album. Highlights for me would be "Hunter" and "Gift from Heaven".

Honestly, I thought this album was a banger. The groovy and oppressive industrial hip-hop influence adds so much flavor to Godflesh's formula. I can see myself blasting this album more regularly from now on.

To be honest, I've always considered Godflesh to be a poor man's Swans but bizarrely I like this one so perhaps it's those "hip-hop" drums you're all referring to.
