Judging by what I've seen so far, people tend to have a much harder time listening to music that is extremely slow than its fast counterpart. Oh, you think you know what extremely slow is? Well then, you'll have no problems sitting through Stream From The Heavens. Ironic, though, that the album contains the word "stream" in its name, when "Ten thousand tons of lead barely slugging through mud... from the Heavens" would have been much more appropriate to describe the sound.

Being (one of) the forefathers of funeral doom, Thergothon set the standards of the sub-genre with this record, which is both challenging for the unprepared neophytes and, at the same time, rewarding for the adepts of The Church of Slow and Heavy.

Well, this is Funeral Doom at its most minimalistic.

Super slow riffs, painfully slow drum beats, and subtle atmospheric keyboards all come together to shape these dragging, almost suffocating songs. Combined with the unbelievably deep growls of the frontman, sometimes contrasted with clean vocals, plus lyrics rooted in Lovecraftian horror and a raw production quality that even underground Black Metal bands would appreciate, the album feels absolutely crushing.

It overwhelms you with a massive sense of weight, hopelessness, and despair, while still remaining melodic and deeply atmospheric.

This kind of ultra-minimalistic Funeral Doom is quite unique. As one of the earliest releases in the genre, it set a very high standard for bands that followed. And considering that it’s Thergothon’s only full-length album, that just adds even more to its “kvlt” status.

I love this album, and I’ve honestly never heard anything quite like it. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you’re into extremely slow, heavy, and minimalistic metal, this is incredibly hard to beat.
