Honestly excited about this one but the album art just looks so damn similar to their last couple of releases.

Whoa, is this brutal. From the opening track its like a buzz saw. The vocals are very low and guttural, ads sickest performance yet. This might be there reign in blood moment.......need a few more listens.

Another one uploaded on Youtube.

Checked it out solely due to the rating here (8.5 at the time of writing this). Not exactly bad but definitely an album I think doesn't deserve such a high score. The instrumentation is typically fast and catchy with technical guitar wankery here and there but on the whole this is just mindless death/thrash stuff.

Of course if that's what you're into then this album won't disappoint at all. Sounds like it could have been released 15 years ago too, so there's that.

Mindless death/thrash stuff?

There are some really nice riffs on here, some mid tempo guitar work also not just all speed. There are some tracks that feature a slower and heavy, thick main riff "The dome of pleasure" "The savior" . The burden of mayhem has lots of tempo changes, couple nice short solos. After a few listens you start to pickup everything, first listen sounded like a full on speed fest. The whole band sounds really tight on this album, and it is really made because of the incredible drumming. The album is so much more then just fast riffs and blast beats. Its solid and complete for a death metal album. Death metal album of year so far......

Ya, mindless death/thrash stuff. If a mix of simple mid-paced riffs and fast-paced instrumentation is all it takes for you to consider an album as one of the best of the year in its respective genre then that's great for you. Personally I consider this slightly above mediocre and undeserving of such praise but to each their own.

Maybe mindless is not the best word to use. This doesn't sound like it was slapped together overnight, and the band sounds fresh and focused on this release. Yea, a simple mix of slow, mid-paced and fast is nice since it adds variation , unlike, lets say the new aborted which lacks this. Once again this is a death metal album, not tech-death, grind-death, just old school with a new age approach. And im not picking up any thrash elements on the album either.
