Epic Power Metal
Dec 07, 2014
Ancient Bards remains one of the most incredible and unique power metal bands. Strangely underrated, their sheer energy is a force of nature. With powerful vocals, soaring guitars, and punishing drums, they manage to be symphonic and "balls out" at the same time. Their 3rd album is darker than ever.

There are so many things going on in this album, it is hard to even describe. Without a doubt the best of their, I will try to get to know songs better first to give the final judgement, but it seems that the hardest genre this year will be symphonic metal:
Delain - Masterpiece
Xandria - Masterpiece
Diabulus in Musica - Top Class
Ancient Bards - Best to date

The narrations bother me a lot in regards to this album. Especially in the last track which is unnecesarily long, and that mid interlude is even more annoying. Not a masterpiece, but I do think their debut is an inch ahead of this one. Ow, and the intro... damn...

I agree on narrations, somehow Italiant always makes it ultra chessy. However I enjoyed both long songs besides the spoken parts. Yes, not a masterpiece, but I'm pleased that they found their own way, not only copy the sound of Rhapsody.

This is a quite ambitious offering, and the production is massive! The lyrics do not resonate with me at all, so in the end I'm not touched, but the symphonic side and overall sound alone make this a worthy album for sure.

This album is brilliant!! Not the best PM album of the year but it's up there with a few others, including the new Galneryus album. Solid release.

Only heard 1 song by this band before, decided to randomly listen to this album. Amazing!! Love the vocals and the choir! The first full track A Greater Purpose has some amazing melodies. Especially the guitar work, it is spectacular!! Sara's voice I would say is somewhere between Elize Ryd and Noora Louhimo.

Edit: I need to be in a Michael Bay mindset to full enjoy the album, the keyboards are a little crappy. But it's a solid 8.5 if I can ignore that the symphonies are all keyboards. Apart from that, the guitars and drums are amazing, especially the solos.
