This one is a total step or two up from their demo (which you call e.p.) which was run of the mill heard it a gazillion times before black metal. Here they at least have a lot of atmosphere which was totally lacking on their demo. Plus it has a totally organic flow to it which makes one go back to it and not play it on shuffle.

Btw I am not the only one who regards this one as one of the top albums of the year. Just look around and you'll see it pop up on many an end of year list.

I somehow agree that this debut full length of them more original than that demo (or EP) but that doesn't make it more enjoyable. The atmosphere you are talking about is never fully devolved. I might go as extreme as say that they totally fail at evoking any type of dark, or depressing, or whatever other negative feeling for me. It just passes by without any emotional impact.

I am also pretty sure you don't believe that presence of an album in many end of the year lists makes it necessarily good, like artificial brain, thou, at the gates etc

Much like things like Artificial Brain, Sunn O))), Thou, Pallbearer and a bunch of others, I'm not sure how this album found its way to be on so many lists.

I still think this one is a grower. My first reaction was my usual bias "why would I go back to this when I have others?". But when you stop being a bitch and just let the album play it's really cool. It is short enough to justify a second chance. It does come off as directionless, clearly, but individual bits are good enough to sustain the 40 minutes of it.

well, the vinyl version of it calls it the demo cassette put on vinyl. The demo was released by Dark Descent. But then agan loads of demos are released by labels. dark descent has released a couple (this is one of them) and iron Bonehead releases loads of demos.

Btw Marcel, I will also go for Teitanblood soon. Think that I might actually like that way more than before (and definitely more that their debut).

The second track is amazing. One of my favorite songs from last year.

Not sure why there's so much hate here. This album is really cool. I love how chromatic the instrumentation is. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite BM releases of last year.

Best BM album of 2014, my ass. This was so tedious to listen to, it's ridiculous.

That EP is good but not that good, no idea why people overrate it so much.

This artist deserves more attention. Surprised there's no review for them across the board despite the 2 pages of attention back then. Their art choice for each release is spot on, they've even got Tifa in their name for all of you simps reading.

Does anyone get any psychedelic vibes from them? They're very dreamy in a PTSD, hypnagogic nightmarish sort of way. Borderline with a dash of that urban side to what made the atmosphere in dsbm.

In terms of any difference between the former demo and ep, it seems they had taken the same disorientating ideas and pulled them further apart. Plebeian Grandstand is the closest I can think of in terms of substance. I don't know of any major difference from this to self-titled other than the mix.
