Good lord. Sleaze metal revival? Are we actually still doing this? Ugh. Midnight Sin, if this album ever had any value, it's about a decade past it's "best before" date.
Glam/sleaze rock/metal revival was a fun little musical movement while it lasted. We got a few solid albums out of it: Hardcore Superstar's Dreamin' In A Casket and Crashdïet's Rest In Sleaze, just to name a couple. Hardcore Superstar fizzled out in both buzz and quality, while Crashdïet have been chasing their own tails since the death of Dave Lepard. With the downhill slide of those two heavyweight bands, so has the movement.
It was a party.
It was a blast.
Parties end.
Are Midnight Sin going to inject new life into this dying sound? You can bet your balls they won't. What made the revival actually listenable in the first place was it was a modern adaptation of an old sound. This...this is just sad. Sex First...Music second? Yeah, Probably. This band strikes me as some sort of vessel for the members to get laid, rather than any sort of legitimate musical entity, which probably isn't too far of a stretch. Maybe I'm not much of an artist, but I can't see any sort of profound inspiration being the driving force behind this garbage. Even if it was released at the peak of the sleaze-revival, I couldn't see Sex First being anything remarkable. This sounds like music written by horny fifteen-year-olds.
As far as the sound goes? It's pretty much what you'd expect; some lazy cross between Crashdïet and Buckcherry. Recycled garbage made from already recycled material. Think of The Human Centipede put into musical form, and guess who are the poor saps at the end of that fecal conga-line? That's right! We are! Yay!
There's only so many ways you can say "meh" in one review. Let's end it before this whole thing just becomes undiluted excrement word-play.
