We all know how Unsung Heroes turned out (probably best left... unsung). Such a reception always creates a great deal of apprehension over the successor. Now, I don't want to become embroiled in a hype war and claim irresponsibly that Ensiferum really put their noses to the grindstone and hit one out of the park... but let's just say that One Man Army shows a marked improvement.

This is one of the hottest albums on Metalstorm right now. 97 folks has already bought One Man Army.

Must be something in it to induce our friends to take their cash.

Not bad. Definitely better than Unsung Heroes. "Cry for the Earth Bounds" and "Descendants, Defiance, Domination" are great and also somewhat different than their previous work. Another highlight would be "Two of Spades" which is quite fun and again, different. The rest is a bit repetitive and not really original, but you know, it's Ensiferum.
By the way, what the hell was "Neito Pohjolan" ? I mean, it sounds cool and all but it's not Ensiferum and it's not metal at all.

From the beginning up to 'Warrior without a war' included, I like it a lot. 'Two of spades' also.
The rest a little bit less, especially 'Cry for the earth bound' which I find a little boring, and the last song.
All in all it makes a 8 for me: better than Unsung Heroes but not as enjoyable as the first four albums.

I loved the disco part in "Two of spades", didn't expect it from a band like Ensiferum

Hard to believe this was released under nuclear blast record, cause the production is very bad. overall this is a regular album for ensiferum standard.

I like the album, but Cry For The Earth Bounds (7:32 mins ) is a clear filler for me... in fact, until this song, the album is really awesome.

NO, I think Unsung Heroes was better but almost lots of Metalstorm members like more extreme sound!!

Can't really get into this one.

There are a few good tracks but overall its an uneven album as the sound is all over the place - some generic rehash stuff, some new good stuff, some random aggressive stuff and some out of place folk songs. If there were maybe 2 more good tracks I would've been happy but as it is I can't help but feel disappointed.

I give it 6.5/10.

For me, this is right up there with the best in their entire career. When i listened to this the first time (all the way through) Completely delighted with this accomplishment.
I own all of their material, very impressed to say the least, well done guys.
10/10.

Their worst imo, those gang vocals throughout ruin it.

I'm in the minority on this one but I love this album, love the use of choirs a lot. I think they fit very well on this album. "Cry for the Earth Bounds" is my favorite track. Great effort.

This album is where Ensiferum became completely dead to me. I even found Unsung Heroes to be slightly more enjoyable, but only slightly, because I could see if some ideas from it were reworked then parts of it might have been alright. Not One Man Army though.

I fully understand that there are far worse albums out there that more objectively deserve to be rated with a 1, but from me this album deserves it too. Not long after One Man Army came out I was with my friend shopping for CDs and wanted to get something new but not much was sticking out to me in the shop. I saw this album and had absolutely no faith that I would like any of it because the Lindroos era of Ensiferum had gotten so stale and bad by then. I eventually went against my better judgement and thought, "Maybe that last album was just a fluke and they'll turn things around." I used to love Ensiferum after all so I felt I owed them another chance.

We got in the car and I popped this into the stereo. My friend hadn't listened to many of their albums but to me it was all too familiar from the first note. For the first five songs I kept calling every single move the band was going to make, "Now they're going to do this, and now they're going to do this, and the next song will be like this, and the song after that will be like this." It was so watered down, lackluster, predictable, and simply dumb. The second half of the album was a little less predictable I think but all I really remember is that I hated all of it to the point where I knew I'd never want anything to do with Ensiferum ever again. It was so disappointing to hear what was once a favorite band of mine show so little effort and bring so little to the table. When the album was over my friend and I both said, "Well that was shit" then I popped the CD out of the stereo and threw it out the car window. What a pathetic album.

It's a good album, many memorable moments on many songs and it's better than 'Unsung heroes'.The only disadvantage I find here is the poor production and Petri's vocals sound similar to his old band,Norther, and they don't sound like the previous albums..
