Ol Drake - Guitarist Releases Samples From Debut Solo Album


As you might recall, Oliver Michael "Ol" Drake left the UK thrash metal band Evile back in 2013 and the guitar virtuoso signed a multi-album worldwide recording deal with Earache Records. He is now releasing his debut solo album under the name Old Rake. The album will be out on June 22nd in Europe and June 23rd North America. Below you can listen to audio samples from all the tracks that will appear on the album. What are your impressions of the music?

The album features instrumental guitar encompassing a myriad of styles, including flat-out shredding, classical, progressive, melodic and acoustic.

Old Rake was recorded at the guitarist's home studio and was mixed with producer and former Death, Testament, Obituary guitarist James Murphy. Mike Heller (Fear Factory, Malignancy) performs drums on the entire album. Pre-orders are available here.

Frankly speaking, the snippets don't sound interesting at all. As much as I like Ol' work on Evile's Infected Nations, this does not get me excited at all... Shame...

I think the name is the best part here. I once caught one of Ol's picks when I saw Evile and it had Old Rake on it too; I think it's funny. Music sounds really cliche and overdone though. Won't bother with this.
