Tired of the same old prog cliches? Want to hear something more original, yet not too far from your comfort zone? Well, Circus Maximus has just the right remedy for you! It really takes balls to change direction for a metal band. We all know that Opeth's latest albums divided their fans and the same is about to happen to Circus Maximus. Their newest effort, Havoc, is a perfect display of how can you play music for the masses and stay prog. Yes, it's not as heavy as Isolate or The 1st Chapter, but those albums already exist and the modern crowd doesn't want to listen to duplicates. The ratings for Havoc are lower than for any of their previous releases, but personally for me - it's their best album so far (not yet, kids, hold your trolling skills!). Read more ›› |

I have really no idea what to expect now. I've heard Loved Ones which is a good powerful ballad, The Weight is catchy, and has good lyrics, but I expected something with more punch to it.. Then Havoc which packs a punch that I wanted from an album named Havoc \m/ the only problem with the tittle track is that it's way too short. .still Can't wait to listen to the whole album and for the Rockefeller release party this weekend!

I think it's a very good album. Not really heavy and quite poppy, but I don't think that's a bad thing. 8/10 People who don't like the title track, don't worry, it's definitely the weakest song on the album. It and Pages are the only songs on the album I don't really care for.

Although it's a good record I expected something else from them. Maybe more complex, more heavier and less "happier". I really like it, but that's all.

Though softer than the previous releases, the album keeps the characteristic Circus Maximus style "Remember" sounds too much like Muse in some parts.

Agree it is the weakest offering from CM, although it's my favourite band. After hearing it few times now I'm growing to like it. Some parts are reminiscent of traditional CM sound, some are totally new.

I have sort of the same feelings as when Nightwish released their new album last year: Indifference and a slight disappointment. I loved Nine, even though it took a long time to appreciate that album. Havoc doesn't have the same kind of energy and good ideas Nine had.

It's a great album peoples must grow up sometimes, you can remake the same album each time you need to expande and deviate to another style.

Given that, you would think I might end up liking Havoc, but I really have doubts about that this time due to something about it. Perhaps because it's somewhat similar to Nine. Time will tell I guess. Personally, nothing can beat the Japanese bonus track "silence" on Isolate. Absolutely phenomenal.

Doesn't sound too good. Yeah they need to create something new and break boundaries, but I'd rather break boundaries by evolving the Isolate sound which is really amazing...Anyway not an overly bad album but I don't know...
