You already know the line of this band by reading the first paragraph, it's something-core allright, and I don't want to get into cataloguing this piece because it will take a long while. Their songwriting is quite interesting though; they blend technical edges with hardcore violence, a mix of Between The Buried And Me and Ion Dissonance with the addition of fruity melodies and frumpy patterns, it all sounds great when the vocalist enters with his versatile screams and ominous growls.
The album is also packaged with all kind of "studio" experimentations and "Pro-Tools" effects (pitched beats, reverb, belting, etc.); all in all, the final product sounds more than interesting and really fucking acid. But then I foresaw the flaws; the album isn't a solid piece at all, maybe because it's just a debut or because it's almost genre-less, but it tears apart in terms of reconnaissance if you know what I mean. I think this also has a lot to do with the length of the tracks; you'll miss the best parts of a song if you sneeze, the complex and the catchy segments pass by so fast that you can only catch a glimpse of them, understandable fact as the tracks are quite small as well.
This is just a debut album, so it's very surprising that Cassius managed to create a high-quality piece in their first attempt indeed, it of course has some flaws, but I can surely recommend this album to ??-Core collectors or to anyone who wants their metal to be multi-faceted and fucking agressive.

Both band name and album title confused me. Cassius is some French electronic music project and in the 80's there was a band called "Jim Jones & The Kool-Aid Kids" - made me thinking whether those Frenchies claim to be the same person or something

I listened to their Myspace and I think they're decent at best. I enjoyed their raw sound, but they aren't consistently aggressive enough for them to stand out amongst other metalcore bands.
