The hype train for The Last Stand was as swift, powerful, and unstoppable as Jan III Sobieski at the Battle of Vienna. Sabaton and Nuclear Blast ardently touted this album as a new chapter in the band's sonic evolution, a new incarnation of our Swedish pals featuring more experimentation and variation than ever. It's clear that they wanted us to recognize something greater in The Last Stand. But what is it that sets The Last Stand apart?

Sabaton. Yeah, that name has become really well-known in the world of power metal. With albums like The Art Of War and Carolus Rex, it's not hard to understand why.

But what about the latest album? Is The Last Stand really a masterpiece like the official lyric videos tell us?

No, I wouldn't say so personally. This is Sabaton as you already know them. I don't find anything really innovative on this album. Is it bad? No, it's just that I expected more from the album (especially when they are claiming it would be a masterpiece). To me it feels a bit generic.

Nice album art. More interested in the lyrical content and the battles they are gonna address rather than the music, because it will probably sound like traditional Sabaton

As always, lots of great keyboard melodies and lacking of heavy riffs. Not as powerful as "The Art Of War" or "The Coat Of Arms". Still I like their traditional war themed lyrics. A typical Sabaton album at all but deserves to be heard a few times

So far I like it more than Heroes. Which I liked, by the way.

Here's to hoping that Carolus Rex was just a one time mistake

I'm a flag burning anarchist who hates most of Sabaton's themes. And yet, I love anthemic metal, and the theme of defensive battles are much more tolerable than most types of war metal. This album thus becomes their most lyrically toletarble when I already like all of them musically.

It's somewhat catchy but it also feels kind of bland and unoriginal.

The songs I like most are when they try something different, like Blood Of Bannockburn. Though it's hard to sing along to a song where the English are the bad guys

I enjoyed it, songs like "Winged Hussars" "Last Dying Breath" and Blood Of Bannockburn are fantastic. The rest isn't bad either but i expected more from them.

For some reason I couldn't get into this band's music, and I tried so many times, since most of my friends who like metal are almost obsessed with them. Plus, I love power metal, but Sabaton kinda seemed too weak for me. This album however sounds really nice. Lots of great melodies, harmonies, and even if the guitar riffs are generic as hell, they still manage to cover it up with the melodic stuff played over them. All in all, it's an enjoyable album.

Yeah it sounds exactly like you knew it would. Sabaton gives us a slab of extremly cheesy flower metal. Some of these songs are catchy as hell and with some decent written lyrics they would be actually kind of cool. Winged Hussar, Last Dying Breath and Sparta will all probably work great in a live setting. The problem here is (as always) you can't hear the guitar, the drums and synth is way too loud, the lyrics are cheaply written and last but not least we heard all this before, and in better versions. I think I prefer this one to Heroes but to fair, both albums are quite bland.

And oh one last thing. Nice stealing the intro riff from Night of the Demon in The Last Battle. Real fucking classy.

I like the band so much but they are, defently, without ideas. Boring and almost the same than before. Sounds nice but not fresh.

I feel like I should dislike the album for essentially just rehashing their old stuff, or at least feel disappointed, but fuck, I can't stop listening to it over and over again and there isn't a single track that I ever feel like skipping. The title track makes me want to renounce my atheism and convert to catholicism.

The rating is correct, the weakest Sabaton album of the last years. Listenable though.
Highlights for me:
01. Sparta
06. Rorke's Drift
07. The Last Stand
08. Hill 3234
09. Shiroyama
10. Winged Hussars

Wow.. I wish they'd make another album as good as Carolus Rex. I like thew two last albums so much less than the first ones. Not that I dislike them, but they like the power and epicness of the first efforts. It feel cheesier at each new album..
On songs like "Last Dying Breath", I feel more of a Rhapsody vibe than the classic Sabaton. Once again, not saying that Rhapsody is bad, I just like previous stuff way more.
