Hahahaha! XD That pic sums up exactly what I was thinking while looking at the Top Ten.
Nice to see that Beethoven's Last Night is getting some love.

Nice to see that someone else genuinely enjoys 0101001. Too bad I could badly get through the rest of the list without gouging my eyes out (sorry)

Oh, and seeing as how you're obviously a big prog fan, I am really surprised that The Perfect Element I or Remedy Lane isn't on here... Seeing as how they are both masterpieces. :O

Ambeon - Fate Of A Dreamer - I love this disc, great to see it on the list. I continue to regret never buying it when it was released and am now left with mp3s, albeit high quality ones. I'd be able to sell it for well over $100 USD, or better yet, 100 euros and buy another 20 cds with it due to its ridiculously high ebay/amazon rates.
Falconer - Falconer - Yeah, no matter how many times I listen to Among Beggars And Thieves, the self-titled disc is still great and had the biggest impact to me of any Falconer disc. I'm still hoping to see them live someday...
Evergrey - Monday Morning ApocalypseHmm, I just can't get into this disc, but I guess I can see why it could make a top list because it was such a departure for the band, particularly the production. I'd still have gone with "Torn" though.
Whyzdom - From The Brink Of Infinity - There's something to be said about the number 100 on the list it seems for people, as I wonder where it will place (higher or lower) in a few years. Perhaps you need to see them live now to make up your mind on this
Sepia Dreamer - The Sublime - For something so high on your list, I'd never heard of it all. After checking some samples, it seems really good - maybe not something for me, but I know a friend or two who'd love it. And maybe after some further listenings myself too. It feels impressive, yet not pretentious, something rare in this type of music to me.

Bas, your list sucks. Ayreon, Linkin Park, Stratovarius? Jesus, what a load of crap.
Not to worry, children. Doc's awesome list will be posted soon.

Like I said it's a very subjective list
But feel free to tell me what releases disturb you the most

Same for me, seeing Falconer live would be something like a dream come true for me, they've been my favourite power metal band since a long time now, their debut being my top favourite power metal album of all time
Yeah Sepia Dreamer is pretty obscure as far as I know, I originally checked them out because Leon Macey of Mithras (my favourite band at the time) does the drumming on that album. I'm sure it's not for everyone due to the nature of the music and it being instrumental, but I absolutely love it.

I just never really managed to get into Pain Of Salvation. The songs I've heard of them so far never really managed to get me interested in the band, I've been planning to give one of their albums a full spin since a while but haven't really had the opportunity yet.
And yeah Beethoven's Last Night is a pretty sweet album, have you listened to their new one yet? I still have to do that too

That may be your problem. You haven't listened to a full album. I suggest that you listen to The Perfect Element I. There are a lot of very clever and well orchestrated reoccurring themes (lyrics and melodies) spread throughout the album. Daniel Gildenlöw's brilliance as a musician and songwriter really shine on the album.
Yeah, I've listened to Night Castle quite a few times. It's really good, but not as good as BLN imo. There are a couple of 10 minute power ballads that Robert Even destroys. I'm interested in where they will be going with their music in the future seeing as their Christmas Trilogy is done. Night Castle is a pretty good start.

>Evanescence - Origin
did not expect that at all, or "The Heart Of Everything". I like both btw
I still think Star One is better than Ayreon

Yeah I absolutely love Origin, one of the best albums ever to relax to
I don't like Fallen or any other of their later works though
As for Star One, imo it's definitely his best non-Ayreon album, compared to Ayreon I like some of Ayreons discography better (0101, Human Equation and Universal Migrator 1) but prefer Space Metal to the rest of the Ayreon discography

Eh? What's wrong with "Fallen"? Forgotten to mention that "Fallen" and "The Heart Of Everything" is why I started listening to metal, so treat me like a fan boy for these two albums (albums only, not bands)

Well for me Origin is a really beautiful album that manages to stir a lot of emotion in me and Fallen just doesn't manage to do that at all.
Yeah I like The Heart Of Everything a lot as well, The Silent Force too, not all that fond of the earlier stuff though, I simply like the last two better

Thanks so much for doing this...ive already discovered some amazing new music on your list...i tend to gravitate towards the dark, extreme end of things, so discovering the more melodic/progressive bands that you have listed is really quite wonderful

DO IT. If you are into prog, you will not regret purchasing such a classic as Light of Day, Day of Darkness.

The only critcism i have of many of the bands on this list is the overly-produced nature of their music...it's just my individual tastes speaking here, of course...but i tend to prefer my metal more raw, chaotic, even psychedelic...many of these bands have a sound that is so professional and perfect, it can come off as a bit generic and sterile...but the best of them manage to transcend those "limitations"...i think when im in the mood for this type of thing, ill keep digging through this list...
quite enjoying Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...

Yeah, that seems to be a taste thing, personally I enjoy most of my melodic metal (especially the progressive ones) crystal clear (I like my black metal slightly raw too though)
You could also check out Redemption - Snowfall On Judgement Day
I didn't know it yet at the time of making that list, but at the moment it's one of my top 2 albums
It's extremely emotional prog metal with a dark edge to it too.
