ICQ is an "alternative" internet chat program which people use, though not as popular as AIM or MSN.

You think so? At least 70% of my chats contacts are on ICQ, maybe 25% on MSN and the rest distributed to AIM and YIM. Most people over here (i.e. where I live) are on ICQ, while only the minority uses the other programs. From my point of view MSN and AIM are the "alternative" chat programs.

If you want more proof, check the ratio of how many people on Metal Stom alone have only an msn addy, rather than icq... sorry if I have offended you in some way, all i'm trying to do is explain something based on mine and other people's experiences

No offence taken, I was just pointing out that there are also regional differences; of my German chat contacts I don't know anyone who does not use ICQ. There is also a difference whether you just have the IM or whether you use it. MSN is included in Windows, AIM is included in AOL's proprietary software. ICQ is not included anywhere, but still has 40 million more registered ID's than MSN has.

where I live MSN and the other stuff can't come close to the popularity of icq... Sorry for the offtopic...

Here Microsoft killed ICQ when started his massive advertisement of MSN.com, even on TV.

I tryed to survive without it, but all contacts moved there. I always open it, but don't see no one online anymore.
