When we think of metalcore, we generally all have in mind very heavy music with big breakdowns without any depth or novelty. However, with this album, Ice Nine Kills show us that the genre can still be original.

This album, based on horror, has advantages that allow it to sound quite unique, and to show that metalcore is a genre still very much alive and innovative (although in reality, this is not always the case). Listeners can tell from the first moment that this album is going to be different. Each riff is nice, the overall atmosphere of the music gives the album a distinctive identity without the horror side becoming cringe (contrary to what I believed before having listened to it). Also, the vocalist of the group has a voice that fits well with the general theme.

Obviously the album has certain negative sides, the main one being the fact that, in my opinion, the theme wears out quickly, and during the last quarter of the album, the music is no longer as explosive as at the beginning (the end of the album is the least interesting part for this reason). The record runs out of steam as it goes along, which is a shame because the end of an album contributes a lot to its overall appreciation.

In short, the album is original, although the theme quickly runs out of steam. Small mention to "Stabbing In The Dark", which is in my opinion the best music of the album, with the good sequence between the chorus and the much more metallic parts, accentuated by a very fast and frantic rhythm on the guitar.
