YES! You read well, I'm reviewing possibly the first Viking Rap Metal album! Who would thought that you can put together the epic chants of the Vikings with the gangsta' rhyme bustin' of the rappers. Well, someone did it, and they're called Norselaw. The album is called "Sweet Home Scandinavia" and to be honest I wouldn't call this Viking Rap, but Viking CRAP.

Ok, let's not loose the rarity value of the release, because is the only reason I can think for someone buying this Cd. The formula is simple, Rap and Black Metal. 2 guys rapping, one with clear vocals and the other growling, musically, this is a lot of beeps and bleeps, programmed drum and some guitars. Production sucks, the mix is mediocre and the cover art & inside booklet are also horrible.

Band members created suitable pseudonyms for the band like Valhalla Ice, Magnus Malmsteen, Loki Fresh among others. To be honest with you, I had a fun time listening this album, because I laughed so hard that people thought I was completely stoned, the lyrics and all the songs are just hilarious, just look at the song titles!

The album also has covers! Like their version of "Sweet Home Alabama" of Lynyrd Skynyrd, properly entitled "Sweet Home Scandinavia" or their version of "Ninja Rap" of Vanilla Ice, entitled this time "Viking Rap" you can't begin to imagine how hilarious is to hear "Go Viking go, go Viking GO GO GO!!" The band also uses some samples from other bands like Luca Turilli, Queensryche and Blind Guardian, of course, these are the worst utilized samples I've ever heard in my life, they're just out of place, they truly need to reorganize their music and put their act together, because while this is original, is not good.

So, what's up with the rating? Well, this is something you won't find so easily, this "new" genre that these Americans came up with is very laughable, yet quite amusing, the laughter value might surpass the money of purchase, even if the production sucks and songs are too ridicule to be taken seriously. And this is the part that puzzles me the most, these guys take seriously what are they doing! This is not a band that mocks a genre intentionally! These guys are seriously about their Viking Rap thing, and they want a label, promotional support, and touring, what is next? a tribute album? So the rating goes for this, because if you're taking seriously, you can release something of such bad presentation and mediocre quality. If this were a mockery album, I would give it an 8, but since is not, a 3 for these 'hood Vikings.

So, in a nutshell, definitively check this out, is a must-have for collectors of weird Metal projects (along with Nanowar, Game Over and Blackseed Boys), some songs suck, some are really funny, lyrics are hilarious, musical arrangements are crap, the question remains forever, what is more important, the fun value? Or the fact that this actually sucks? You'll be the judge. GO GO GO GO!!
