Sweden's Power knights Cryonic Temple returns with their third effort to out beloved Metal scene, this time named "In Thy Power", and as you already guessed/knew, it's pure Power/Speed Metal we're going to talk about here, in a twisted ironic way.
I know this Power Metal with dragons, kings and swords might be more than most of you can stand, and it's even worse with bands that's really taking in 100% seriously, therefore it's great for us, that still likes pieces of this, that there are bands that are so cliché in a very ironic way, such as Dream Evil and the band on today's menu, Cryonic Temple.
But even if I'm sure this band isn't living their theme out for full, they still have serious sides, the first track on this new album shows us that, "When Hell Freezes Over" is a peak against the corrupted media.
Beside that, the material follows the unoriginal way of warriors, wolves, kings, wars and time travels, in all expected and unexpected ways.
Cryonic Temple hails from the town Borlänge, pretty much in the middle of Sweden, they have been around for almost 10 years now, and "In They Power" is, as I said, their third album. Their first "Chapter 1" is actually still today their former labels (Underground Symphony) best selling album, that's an exploit, don't you think?
"In Thy Power" is a fast album, from the beginning to the end, so if you're not into Power ballads but like Power Metal, well then this album fits you like your shoe.
After the serious starter, the title-track follows, and personally I think this song is the strongest on the album, the chorus is catchy as hell and here the singer Glen Metal (Johan Johansson) really shines.
"Beast Slayer" is another exception, once again is the chorus the best part; "It's me, my guns and my trusted Wolf", sung with great empathy by Johan.
Following track "Wolfcry" is actually very Iron Maiden-alike, just listen to the bass lines in the beginning, I could swear I was listening to Iron Maiden the first time I heard it.
I had the honour to receive their second album two years ago, and in the review (can be found at this location!) I brought forward the duo in the band that I really thought was lifting the band above others, and that was of course singer Glen Metal (Johan Johansson) and guitarist Esa Ahonen, they are still a duo that would fit in almost any Power Metal band of you choice.
But still, they whole band should be praised for a great album, because they are still a team.
So if you heard any of their past two albums "Chapter 1" or "Blood, Guts And Glory" and liked it, well they this is a safe buy, it's a great development from Cryonic Temple, their music is better and catchier, the vocals and lyrics are better and the production is clearer.
But if you never heard the band but thinks it might suit you, don't hesitate; this is really a great Power Metal album, however you look upon it.
Check Out: "In Thy Power", "Beast Slayer", "A Soldiers Tale" & "Eternal Flames of Metal" (I've putted a link to an edited version of this song in the Tracklist, check it out!).
