The soundtrack to a landscape

I was eager to hear more from this one man project from Russia, since I hear Liholesie (meaning: mirkwood) debut album "Primeval Rotation" I was quite impressed with the music, which evoked journeys through enchanted lands (yes, they don't only exist on Rhapsody records), vast landscapes and somber woods.

For those not familiar with Liholesie, I must first warn that this is definitively not Metal, no distorted guitars, shrieks, growls, drums or any sign of aggression at all. This is pure recreation of Russian landscapes, Liholesie style.

Songs are instrumental pieces that takes us to Russia, there we can observe the beauty of the plains, the forests, the lakes. I think this album totally succeed in its objective, every time I listen to it I dream of such landscapes, and only hope to known them personally once in my life, I didn't knew Russia had so much to offer to the eye until I heard this album.

The booklet is filled with awesome photos from all sorts of landscapes on Russian soil, a quick search on the Internet revealed much more to see.

I think the best way to describe this could be as a mix of Vangelis and Summoning, with a lot of folk elements like mouth harps and others.

I can recommend this to anyone interested in hearing the perfect music for traveling. I went to a mountain trip listening the previous album and it was just awesome, you can imagine which album I'm going to take with me to my next excursion.
