When I first heard this album I thought "Man these guys are good, this must be like their third album released". Well, the truth shocked me even more, Festerfiction is Exhale's debut album, and when a band manages to achieve this kind of quality in their first full-length, I can't even imagine what they will do in the future.

This band chooses the path of chaotic Grindcore in the vein of Discordance Axis and early Brutal Truth, they do a great job as well. The album shows a band focused in execution and performance, and that's one of the best features of Exhale as most "newborn" Grindcore bands center their music in being the most violent and the fastest band around; don't get me wrong, Exhale is still really hostile and fast as hell, but their composition has a better structure that's all.

I have to be honest with all the readers, you won't receive the best songwriting nor the most outrageous inventiveness ever as the overall scheme was based on influences, so this album is not about being influential if you know what I mean. Festerfiction is still a worthwhile album if you're into Grindcore, it's a great opportunity to remember the old days when everything was about playing fast, brutal and with some brains and skills.

I will keep an eye on Exhale for sure, I'll be waiting for new material because I'm sure they'll someday start writing fresher music with a more original idea; they have potential, they are promising, but they just need to polish their designs a little more and then we'll have a great band releasing masterpieces no doubt.
