Mainly influenced by progressive Metal bands like Dream Theater, Dreamlost is a newcomer from France. And as always, this is Brennus Music that signed this young band to release their first official album this year, "Outer Reality". It's not so hard to see the strong potential of Dreamlost, and their first album is not so bad? This is promising even if nonetheless all is not perfect yet... but they're a young promising band so it will come for sure?

The first thing that I will have to say on this review is that the level of our French bands is better and better each new day. I have a new proof behind me one more time and its name is "Outer Reality". Ho yes, of course all is not perfect on this release (we will talk about it later) but honestly, from the production to the songs it's obvious that the quality of "Outer Reality" is not bad at all, especially if you like Progressive Metal. Dreamlost plays a nice Prog Metal with a lot of cark ambiances. Between Dream Theater and Evergrey, the music of this young combo is deep and emotional. The five musicians are not bad even if I regret the little French accent of the singer (but I'm sure that some of you will find it cute anyway so it's not so important ).

Actually, the nine songs of this album are well-composed with some interesting complex structures but on the other hand it lacks a bit of charisma. A song like "The Way Things Are" use a nice riffs and its dark side is really nice but it's not so powerful and that's a bit the same with the other tracks. We have quality but personality is missing here and I didn't have the feeling that I was listening to something really new and unconventional when I tried this CD for the first time. But, on the other hand I can certify that it's just a matter of time and with experience I'm ready to bet that Dreamlost will be able to release some really interesting album of Progressive Metal.

"Outer Reality" is not perfect but it's a good first album and Dreamlost confirms that we have some good bands in our country. Let's give to them some time and I'm sure that we will have some great releases. But don't forget to try "Outer Reality" too, if you like dark and melancholic Progressive Metal, you'll find some nice songs on this first album.
