Puissance is an ambitious project composed by two excellent musicians from Sweden, Henry Moller and Frederik Soderlund. Not a lot of people probably know this band and that's not so surprising when you know that they use to compose a kind of Dark / Industrial /Ambient music. At 10 000? kilometres of the trendy releases that we can find nowadays, their albums are a bit weird for a basic metalhead but all the people who are a bit open minded will probably like them, especially their new one "Grace Of God" which is probably their most accessible release.
With Puissance, all is a mater of ambiance before anything else. Of course, we have real songs, real melodies etc, it's music don't worry but don't even expect to find catchy choruses or something similar, it's just not the point of the music of the band. Like a lot of Dark and Ambient bands, Puissance produces a dark music which flirt with Gothic, Doom or even "religious" music. This incredible mix of different music with a lot of orchestrations is really beautiful and "Grace Of God" is this kind of albums that you'll have to listen to in peace at home just to pass a great emotive and peaceful moment.
The compositions are magisterial and it's a real pleasure to listen to the album. A bit like some classical music a la Wagner the songs of "Grace Of God" will give you a lot of emotion. Plus, you have to know that the band chose to write something a bit more accessible and easy with this album. The songs are complex there is a lot of work no doubt but on the other hand it's not so elitist and "intellectual", definitely it's easier of access now. But the most impressive thing of the album is definitely the general ambiances that we can find on each songs. Really, trust me, when you'll listen to the CD, you'll have some shivers and a lot of strange feelings, from happiness to fear or sorrow.
"Grace Of God" is a really beautiful peace of music, and no doubt that in the style, it will probably become a classic. This is not something for everybody on a side but if you're a bit open minded and like to listen to this kind of music, you'll love this album. With a great production, a beautiful digipack and of course a bunch of great songs, "Grace Of God" will be one of the best album of the year in this category. Don't miss it if you're a fan of the band or if you use to listen to this kind of music.
