Amazing album! Download it for free here (band sanctioned of course).
This is what I wish Opeth had sounded like for the past 10 years of their career.
PS - you can also request a copy from the band for just 5 bucks.

Haha... I originally would give this album a pass because of the Opeth reference. Granted, I haven't listened to Still Life, but this is so much better than Watershed and Morningrise to me.
Thanks for those who gave me the heads up in the shout box!

The less harsh vocals they use, the better they sound to me. Nice thing, though.

I have the opposite opinion. For this type of music, I find clean vocals out of place at best but more often intrusive and disruptive to the overall atmosphere.
Musically, these guys are very, very good. The vocalist is their weak link, but he's all right. I think as he develops his growls will become more consistent and richer, putting his ability on par with the musicianship this band displays. As it is, I give this an 8 (subject to revision with further listens). Lose the clean vocals and I'd give it a 9.
Doc, the Opeth comparison was really unfair. Eyeless have made a really good debut here, not a cure for insomnia.

Yeah, and I'm up to disagreeing. The harsher the vocals get, the more generic it starts to sound. Then again, I'm not exactly what you'd fit into a stereotype.

I wouldn't say clone. The influence is obvious, but to me it sounds like they're taking what made Opeth good and taking it a step further. Keep in mind this is also a 5 song debut EP, there's a lot of potential.

ok, they are not bad... original? No, but there's nothing original anymore... I would happily buy their EP and listen to it twice and then forget about it... that would give me about 1 hour of pleasure... my point was that you were creaming your pants for an average - although mildly creative - band... is that bad? No, but it just tells me how much crap there is out there... I'm glad it's you doing these reviews... I always admire people prepared to suffer for no reward...

I thought this was the band Eyeless out of France, at first.. so the review seemed kind of weird to me. Eyeless out of France is fucking awesome. I highly recommend that you all pick up their 2009 album The Diary. Thrashy, proggy, deathy. So much awesomeness pouring out of France over the past 7-10 years. http://www.myspace.com/eyeless
As for the band in the review, Eyeless (CAN)... the review intrigues me. I really want to hear them, now. Nice review.
