Behemoth, Best To Worst

Thumbs up: 0
This is a big one in that opinions I have seen and heard vary greatly. This simply represents my own thoughts. I am loathe to ever put a band's most recent album at the top of the list, but in this case I absolutely feel it is warranted. Albums I have not listened to have been left off. I have not delved into their straight-black metal period.

1. Behemoth - The Satanist
I love every song on this album. They are extremely consistent while each working in their own right. Symphonic elements are dark and understated. My favorite album of 2014.
2. Behemoth - Zos Kia Cultus (Here And Beyond)
As Above So Below is a great representation of the grimy hooks on this album. Definitely my favorite of their more classic works.
3. Behemoth - Evangelion
Tons of catchy melodies in the guitar work and increased focus on composition. This was an obvious step towards The Satanist.
4. Behemoth - Demigod
To be honest, I did not like this album teh first time I heard it. But it was a grower. What sounded like a wall of berating noise at first gave way to some subtle choices that work very well.
5. Behemoth - Satanica
Excellent work for such a young group. I am sure this paved the way for a lot of blackened death metal.
6. Behemoth - The Apostasy
I have love for this album, but the sound can also be a clangy, grating mess at times. Odd production choices and inconsistent song-writing keep this from reaching higher.
7. Behemoth - Thelema.6
Probably the album I argue about the most. There are some amazing cuts here like Christians to the Lions, but there is also plenty of filler (imo) surpassing that of other releases.

Side note, I don't think any of these albums are bad either. It's definitely a range from excellent to very good. Thelema.6 has some of my favorite tracks, but the most filler tracks as well. Apostacy suffers with it's production at times. I dig the melodies and hooks of the top three the most.

I think I'd be more accurate having every album at the bottom.

Have you not heard Zos Kia Cultus? By any standards it's a great album, and I'm not even a fan of Behemoth.

I've yet to hear anything by this band that held onto my interest for more than a day. That album was no exception. Totally overrated band, whether black, death or otherwise.

Virtually any other album I would agree with you, but Zos Kia Cultus justifies their existence.

Don't listen to the bitter old twats, Behemoth was great until they released The Apostasy. I'm just a half-bitter old twat.

Hey, I like Zos, so I resent being called anything other than a 6/7th-bitter old twat.

ZKC and Demigod must be the only purely dm albums my mother likes, so when I was going to school, she let me put them on at like 7 am, full volume. Just for that memory I couldn't change my mind on those two.

That's weird, and not just because 7am is too early for Behemoth.

Your mom sounds awesome. Mine almost got a heart attack when I put Damnation by Opeth on in the car because she kept expecting shit to go down.

They should remaster Zos, some guitar tracks are nearly inaudible. Apart form that, where is the black metal era? Grom is a good album, should definitely be mentioned. And I have a weakness for Satanica. There's something in that sound that attracts me very much. (blush)

I was sold on Zos the minute I heard As Above So Below. That riff is absolutely infectious.

Haha I understand the poor woman (never liked Opeth). My mom is actually your "average metalhead" that listens to a lot of melodeath, heavy, and some power. It sounds awesome for most of people but for me it's a nightmare . We still have quite a few bands in common, especially on the alternative and stoner side so it's okay. I must sound so ungrateful, sorry Zaph.

Pretty sure the "86" is just his birth year. I should know since my previous username was E.Mols86.

I'm applying the Carlin principle: everyone younger than you is an insufferable brat, and everyone older than you is a bitter old cunt. But it's okay, I like you both.

I've always disliked best to worst lists , just looks boring and very uninteresting. Unless people give a bit of an explanation like why they like them or musical content. Also I didn't think The Satanist is as good as their previous albums IMO.

Agreed. Except when it's my list of Caladan Brood's best albums. That oneis a prime example of how such a list should be.
