Last Winter, Fen pulled out all the stops. This winter, it appears they decided that sometimes less is more, and have cut back accordingly.

I was thinking this was some pretty experimental shit. Then I released I had youtube playing something else at the same time
... I hope it still sounds as good the second time!

It was actually Murmuüre. Which explains why it sounded so experimental. Probably good having that album playing in the background to add extra layers

Ech... Such a massive disappointment. I was hoping new album will match Winter. Instead I listened to some weird mismatched album without any sense of direction. I'm very, very disappointed almost as much as when I heard Opeth's Heritage for first time.

Fen have been on my radar for a while and I enjoyed what I heard, but the previous albums all seemed a bit too uniform for my tastes. This new one takes what I liked about Fen and adds a dose of Enslaved-style progressivism to the mix. I'm sold.

They've done it again. Incredible. Everyone of their albums sound different and yet are amazing. Only Alcest can make that claim in the genre...

Honestly feel like this is Fen’s second best album after Malediction Fields. The songwriting here is diverse - at no point did it feel like things got bogged down the way they might have on a couple of their other albums. The Enslaved influence is obvious and appreciated, but they’re not copying Enslaved, either.
