This one just arrived home Can't believe it's rated so low, it's my favorite by them.

A fantastic album... and definitely a grower. Music like this is like the antithesis of instant gratification music.

Haven't listened to this one in a while but it's probably my favorite Neurosis album, either this or Through Silver.. I like how Cold Ascending leads into Lexicon which is a fucking crazy track. The clean vocals in Lost are also cool.

Been very undecided on Neurosis (aside from Souls At Zero) pretty much since I first heard them, but seeing them at Roadburn's inspired me to revisit their albums, starting with this one. I rather like it, particularly the prominence of the tribal drumming. Lost was my favourite song on it when I first heard it and it's still the strongest song, but pretty much all the songs have at least something I enjoy going on in them.

You were there? Damn, shame... We were quite the group with Che and Zaphod.
I'm a huge fanboy so both sets were fucking brilliant from my perspective.

Yeah man, went by myself, got convinced by Green Carnation, Cult of Luna and a few other bands to give it a go. Enjoyed it - Neurosis was fun, although I've never put too much listening into them so the only songs I recognised in either set were Lost, Through Silver In Blood, Distil and To Crawl Under One's Skin. I'd hadn't been aware they had a couple of punk albums in the beginning so those songs surprised me (and I admittedly wasn't too keen on them), but the rest of it was pretty solid on the whole

I have been revisiting Neurosis this week and really gotta agree that this is poorly rated on MS. It almost feels like a concept album, if that makes sense. It truly is a fantastic album. I used to pass it over for Souls At Zero but it really is growing on me.

Awesome, just like Souls At Zero, even though this one's darker.

Neurosis is so hellish on this one, incredibly interesting compared to their discography from hereon out.

A 2016 review on MA put it perfectly:
Quote:
Neurosis’ Enemy of the Sun is among the most inaccessible slab of slow, monolithic music I have ever heard in my life .... Although it’s a commercially released music, it invites no one to come inside. It’s so uncontrolled, dense, and burly, you have to haggle your way into the soundscape. And if you make the arduous effort to engage with the music, you are thoroughly punished for it.
.....
Enemy of the Sun is a timeless classic, composed and played so purely from the heart, and there’s no dispute whatsoever. It’s an underground masterpiece, as a true enemy of the sun should be (pun intended). This is fucking savage y’all.
